Excellent food, excellent service. I have visiting Higuma in RWC for over 20 years and have great meals every time. The sushi is particularly good, fresh and tasty.

Higuma Japanese Restaurant is such a gem! The place is super cute with both indoor and outdoor seating, and they even have some private parking in the back, which is a big plus. The food was amazing, and I have to say, the mochi mango ice cream and cheesecake were sooo good—definitely a must-try!

Just a heads-up, there’s a $20 minimum purchase per person if you’re dining as a group of four. Also, if you’re planning to go on a busy evening, calling ahead for a reservation is a good idea since it can get crowded.

My parents ate here while my mother was pregnant with me, and I continue to eat here because of the high quality of the food. The atmosphere is lovely to this day, and I would highly reccomend it for its comfortable outdoor seating. The dishes are all great, its a bit pricy but the food is worth it!

Cute cozy authentic Japanese place. They’re only open for lunch on Wed and Thursday. Forgot to take photos of the sushi, but it was all really good.

The grilled gindara was really good – tender and lightly seasoned. It seemed really fresh.
Enjoyed the house salad in addition to a variety of sushi and rolls. Hope to try more stuff next time; they have an extensive menu!

Higuma is an authentic sushi joint that’s usually not extremely crowded because of its location (it’s in Redwood City so more of a “non-foodie” area). Although parking in the back is limited I haven’t had problems finding parking in the parking lot yet. You do see more non-Asian clients here than other sushi restaurants but don’t let that deter you because it’s more of a function of location than testament of non-authenticity. They tried to accommodate more customers by having an outdoor extension so if you don’t have reservations on busy days you may be able to be seated outdoors.

They have a wide selection of sushi especially fish from Japan than many local sushi restaurants. I wouldn’t say their sushi is the most fresh I’ve had but they are good and fresh enough.

What I don’t like is their pricing because the price is per piece not a pair you would typically get. I feel for some sushi such as unagi $4.50 for one piece is ridiculously expensive. In other words expect to pay about double of any other sushi restaurants. For fish from Japan, double that yet again and more. For comparison, unagi from Japan is $10 a piece. Whether that’s worth it depends on you but for me the quality is not so good that it’s worth it. However this doesn’t mean this is a bad restaurant.

The other complaint I have is that it also uses the preset tip calculator when you check out and they are preset at 18, 20, 25% post tax which means it’s inflated by another 10%.

Great small Japanese restaurant. There is now outdoor seating with heat lamps. The food is great and the staff is friendly and helpful. They start with hot towels which is a nice touch. The specials are good and they are a lot to choose from. Tried the a-5 waygu beef which was great. Really enjoyable experience.

We ordered Omakase and the fish was really good. Fresh, well prepared although a little smaller in size. We reserved a table yet was assigned a sushi bar counter which worked out well for us. The service was a bit disorganized as we were served some appetizers that we didn’t order. That’s why a 4 star rating. The restaurant was busy till 8:30 pm on Friday.

Came here dinner time on Friday and could get seated without waiting and with no reservation for a group of five.
Service was good. Amenities also good. There’s a small parking lot in the back too.

Our food came out pretty quickly and everything taste great. The quantities are what you’d expect – not too big but still enough. I really liked the rolls (we got lion king roll and dragon roll). I’ll definitely like to keep coming here.
