First time here and I had the pulled pork nachos. Was damn good! My fiance had the meatloaf. It tasted like meatloaf. The spicy vinegar sauce though is 10/10, we both put it on everything!

I can’t believe this is the first time we have been to Highlander BBQ! We are staying to weekend at the State Park and had takeout for lunch. Delicious flavorful pulled pork barbecue. We had 2 family packs. Pulled pork, buns, barbecue sauce, slaw, and beans. This came with plenty of food to feed our family of 7. Definitely a place we will go again!

There is no reason to give less than 5 stars. It’s not the flashiest restaurant I’ve ever been to, but it was nice, clean, and the people were friendly. The barbecue and slaw were good. The place was about half full, so everyone else around must like it. We just stopped because we were in the area on a trip.

Excellent Local restaurant in a small town. We sampled lots of items on the menu. The hush puppies were perfect, the BBQ Chicken and pork sandwiches were delish and all of the sides were cooked to perfection. Will definitely return if we are ever in the area again.

This place not only has great friendly service with a smile, but the food is of the charts. Our group had several different items. I had the special of the day, country fried steak sandwich and fries. It was delicious. If your up in Roan Mountain it’s a must stop. If you’re not, it’s worth the scenic drive to get here.

Food was great. We both got the pork sandwich w/slaw and fries and beans. $20 Huge sandwich and good amount of fries. I couldn’t even eat all mine. It was our 1st time, we will be back.

Oh my… I may be a business Like Burger connoisseur of sorts But this Angus beef cheeseburger on a heavy toasted FRESH bun blew my everloving carnivore mind! If I lived in the area… this would be my spot _ and I (as well) would have a burger named in my honor!

Clean establishment- friendly staff. Wings were just okay.
BBQ pork sandwich was HEAVENLY 2 say the least. Meat was tender and tasted as it was smoked to near perfection overnight. A pig’s perfect place to be plated!

So I’m from Florida and I had family move up here to Johnson city just a few years ago and the first time I went up there after a long days hike we came across this place didn’t expect much at first but after trying their pig wings I FELL IN LOVE!! Ever since every time I come up here all I ever talk about is how I have to stop at highlanders for their amazing pig wings but not only that the staff their are the sweetest nicest people you can meet and for desert I highly recommend the blueberry cheesecake ice cream cone it’s so delicious I’m not even trying to exaggerate but everything I have eaten there has always been fresh and hot I come up here every year and I this will always be my #1 go to spot for bbq hands down thank you and your amazing staff at highlanders I look forward to seeing you guys soon again

Really good bbq. Decent pricing. Get the small plate- it’s more than plenty. So delicious. Free refills on the drinks. Mac n cheese is delicious, as are the hush puppies.
