We had a craving for BBQ, and decided to stop by this place to try it out. They have a good variety of offerings, with classics like pulled pork and smoked ribs. We’ve ordered their platters, and it came out quickly. Although the brisket and ribs were tasty, it was a bit dry to our liking.
Dining area has ample room and seating. Staff was helpful and friendly. Portions were generous. Pricing was fair compared with others in the area. A good place to enjoy Carolina BBQ.

The family and I planned a day trip to the area and really wanted some good bbq. We read good reviews on this place so we decided to give it a try even though our hotel was about 20 minutes away. My wife ordered the 2 meat combo and I ordered the rib and 2 meat combo. All the kids obviously went with fries and nuggets which they said they enjoyed. To me the brisket was the star of the show, my wife and I really enjoyed that. I really enjoyed the st Louis rib as well. If we had stayed closer the food would’ve been warmer but we were able to just heat in the microwave but when I got the food it was nice and hot. The lady who helped us at the takeout counter was very nice and attentive. She doesn’t know me but her customer service skills wete very good. The only thing that could’ve been better was the Matt’s smoked chicken was definitely a little dry but the sauce on it was very good just dry chicken. I would say that we recommend this place even though we’ve only tried this one time. When we come back to the area I know we will be back to try the good bbq. Oh and I also got the chicken and pastry which I really enjoyed as well. Thanks for the good food and great service.

Great place for a group or for take out. Our family of 17 went and they pushed tables together for us. They have a reasonably priced family bundle. We’re very accommodating if we wanted extra items or more of something. Great atmosphere that’s inviting for a family with kids.

On a weekday afternoon I stopped here for my lunch. It was a great pick!
The place is fairly easy to find and there is easy parking. Everything is laid out well with signs for eat-in vs carry out. You will want to follow directions.
The service was fast and friendly. They were very accommodating when I decided I needed a receipt after I first said no. There was nothing but smiles and polite conversation. I appreciate that in a restaurant.
Now to the best part of High Cotton. The food. Definitely worth your time to come and see. The pork plate was a belly full and good enough to make you say mmmm.
The NC style puts other techniques to shame. The pork has a chance to hold its own under the vinegar base sauce – not too much, maybe just a spoon full is all you want. The Brunswick stew was tasty as was the beens I had. Hush puppies – yep. Excellent.
Thank you for my lovely lunch.

The customer service was fantastic. But the food was horrible for the third time. First time no problem so we went back and the past 3 times the brisket was dry and lacked seasoning. I had the chicken and pastry. It tasted like play doh with celery slivers with a teaspoon of water. The last trip we had ribs and they were dry and lacked flavor too. The pricing had always been reasonable but consider you may be throwing money away. Exactly what I did with the pastry and brisket. Two bites and we threw it in the trash.

I’d give this spot 3 stars. I eat and make a lot of BBQ myself, so I tend to be a little picky when it comes to the details—and a few things here missed the mark for me.
The beans tasted straight out of the can, like basic pork and beans, with no extra seasoning or effort to elevate them. The ribs were disappointing; they seemed like they had been sitting on the warmer for awhile, and the membrane was still on the back—removing the membrane before smoking ribs is bbq 101. The brisket also tasted like it had been sitting for a while, and was uninspiring.
On the positive side, the mac and cheese was tasty good and the chicken had good flavor as well, though it leaned a bit dry. Service was quick and friendly, which I definitely appreciated.
Note: I am from the Midwest and I know they are different ways of doing things in different regions. For example, I prefer a dry rub on a rib versus the Memphis and Carolinas saucy style.

My wife and I are from eastern NC and this is authentic NC barbq. The night we visited they had chicken pastry and I kid you not, it was as good as my grandma’s! Huge portions. Friendly staff.

Got into town on Sunday and waited for this place to open. WORTH THE WAIT. The staff was so welcoming and friendly, making you
feel like family. Ordered the 3 meat platter because I couldn’t decide on just 2. When you order you better be ready to eat right away because the food came out within minutes. I don’t even have the words to describe the taste. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for some good BBQ.
