This was my go to Vietnamese restaurant in Kansas City since the 90s. I visited in November and was not impressed. The prices were very expensive. She added an 18% tip to our party of two’s table. She is not friendly or welcoming whatsoever. I have found a new place that I love. A block to the east you will find Nguyen Pho. Their beef vermicelli bowl with egg roll is exactly what I was eating in Vietnam last year. It is delicious and perfect. And the service is excellent. Friendly and welcoming. And they don’t automatically add tips to every single table there. Go to Nguyen Pho.

I hate doing one star reviews. I don’t remember doing a public one-star before. But rudely treating my wife and in-laws this way and putting in a mandatory tip was too much. My guess is that you were sick of rude customers – maybe Asians who are known to hate tipping like my in laws – not tipping and it affected your attitude about people. I’m sorry that maybe people before were rude if this happened but this doesn’t mean you should be rude.

Giving you a one star review is not meant to be rude but to be a constructive feedback to consider.

The highly-reviewed Vietnam Cafe is close by, to the east of you by like 1-2 minutes. Did they get high reviews by treating their customers rudely? Absolutely not!

I was the one that convinced my group earlier this year to come to your restaurant. They are Asians and they wanted Asian food, as authentic as possible. They were hungry. I led them to your shop. We sat down. You came out and served us. I thanked you for your service.

Even though they are Asians, I have taught them since coming to America that tipping is important and expected. So they tip now even though it’s not in their culture. They do it now. You didn’t have to make them tip by force.

But the way you rudely informed them they would be paying an extra 15% mandatory tip then putting that onto their already high bill scared them away. They still talk about that bad experience to this day and refuse to ever go back. I decided to do something about it and help you know so you could grow.

Don’t feel sad or mad but take this feedback as an opportunity to grow. I’m sorry people have been bad to you (I’m guessing) but please don’t treat people so mean and don’t just put on a tip by force. That’s not how tips should work.

Also, the prices were WAY too high and we didn’t believe the quality was that good. Other things to work on but these can all be improved, I promise. One star review unless we find out there are changes. For your benefit and the benefit of any potential customers looking at your reviews.

We truly wish you well. We want you to succeed! You can change!

We stopped in while at river market this weekend and enjoyed it. The people there are warm and helpful. It was quiet, quaint, and the food was good. When we needed containers, the lady there packed it all away and bagged it for us.

Located in City Market. The food was delish. It came out very hot as you can see from the pic (steaming). The only thing for me was the price. The price from the menu must not be accurate. Idk how my two dishes pictured was a $60 check.

My mom has been going to Hien Vuong for 27 years. It’s owned by the same people. I’m 21 years old, and we don’t live out here anymore. We drove the 5 hours back out to KC today and had to stop by. I loved it again like I always do.

#2, #71, and #75 are menu staples for us because we’re pescatarians.

Common complaints about this place are that the service isn’t peppy and they charge auto gratuity of a mere 15%. These people work hard and take pride in their food. It’s a pleasure to know them and their craft. I think people pass judgement on them sometimes because they don’t falsely inflate their mood for tips.

If you’re looking at this review to figure out whether you want to go eat here- just go ahead and plug the address into your GPS.

When you go up to pay, ask about the grandchildren photos and you can see the owner light up.

This is a ramble and a half, but Ive stood by Hien Vuong for 21 years. I think everybody should try them at least once.

Unfortunately, probably one of the worst pho places I’ve had in the area. Portions are small and overpriced. My regular size bowl was small. Their large size pho is as big as a regular size at other pho places. A 3 eggroll appetizer was $8.99. Spent $60 on just 2 pho bowls and 2 appetizers. The elderly lady (probably owner) that took our order told us she is going to automatically add 15% tip on our order. Um, okay. First time here and most likely my last.

Portion sizes were smaller than what I anticipated from other pho places I’ve been to, however pho broth was super tasty! Deep fried shrimp was good however totally thought they were going to be the skewered shrimp for the price and description of it! Still the shrimp were crunchy and sauce was good!

At $15+, the amount and quality of food can certainly be improved.

Unfortunately, very disappointed with the experience. My main criticism is how salty ALL the dishes were (both soups and noodle ones). Honestly, at times it was almost inedible it was SO salty. You always expect a little extra salt when you get food out in places but this was just unpleasant.

My second criticism was that you barely get any of the “proteins” in your dishes. Someone in our table got the dumpling and pork soup and it came with ONE dumpling; one! And two others got shrimp dishes that came with one/two shrimps, respectively. You’re not paying cheap either, dishes run between $10-12 – you should absolutely be getting a bit more bang for your buck. It feels a bit like we’re being ripped off if I’m being honest – and as a customer, it’s a pretty miserable feeling.

First It was our first time inside it looks alright not very clean . Second we had to wait over 30 minutes to get the food the lady who helped was very rude and unprofessional and lastly the food is not what it should be . The meat was old and also one of the plates was dirty from the bottom . I would not recommend sadly . Also prices are not what they have on the menu
