Hien Vuong Restaurant: Authentic Vietnamese Dining in Kansas …
Reviews
Giving you a one star review is not meant to be rude but to be a constructive feedback to consider.
The highly-reviewed Vietnam Cafe is close by, to the east of you by like 1-2 minutes. Did they get high reviews by treating their customers rudely? Absolutely not!
I was the one that convinced my group earlier this year to come to your restaurant. They are Asians and they wanted Asian food, as authentic as possible. They were hungry. I led them to your shop. We sat down. You came out and served us. I thanked you for your service.
Even though they are Asians, I have taught them since coming to America that tipping is important and expected. So they tip now even though it’s not in their culture. They do it now. You didn’t have to make them tip by force.
But the way you rudely informed them they would be paying an extra 15% mandatory tip then putting that onto their already high bill scared them away. They still talk about that bad experience to this day and refuse to ever go back. I decided to do something about it and help you know so you could grow.
Don’t feel sad or mad but take this feedback as an opportunity to grow. I’m sorry people have been bad to you (I’m guessing) but please don’t treat people so mean and don’t just put on a tip by force. That’s not how tips should work.
Also, the prices were WAY too high and we didn’t believe the quality was that good. Other things to work on but these can all be improved, I promise. One star review unless we find out there are changes. For your benefit and the benefit of any potential customers looking at your reviews.
We truly wish you well. We want you to succeed! You can change!
#2, #71, and #75 are menu staples for us because we’re pescatarians.
Common complaints about this place are that the service isn’t peppy and they charge auto gratuity of a mere 15%. These people work hard and take pride in their food. It’s a pleasure to know them and their craft. I think people pass judgement on them sometimes because they don’t falsely inflate their mood for tips.
If you’re looking at this review to figure out whether you want to go eat here- just go ahead and plug the address into your GPS.
When you go up to pay, ask about the grandchildren photos and you can see the owner light up.
This is a ramble and a half, but Ive stood by Hien Vuong for 21 years. I think everybody should try them at least once.
My second criticism was that you barely get any of the “proteins” in your dishes. Someone in our table got the dumpling and pork soup and it came with ONE dumpling; one! And two others got shrimp dishes that came with one/two shrimps, respectively. You’re not paying cheap either, dishes run between $10-12 – you should absolutely be getting a bit more bang for your buck. It feels a bit like we’re being ripped off if I’m being honest – and as a customer, it’s a pretty miserable feeling.
