Great Matcha but Terrible Food

I tried the new ube matcha drink sweetened and it was amazing. The perfect amount of flavor and sweetness, for breakfast I ordered the avocado toast. Horrible, the avocado was overly ripe and brown. This is my 5th time going to Hico and I’ve never finished a meal in 5 years. Don’t know what’s going on. The staff were slightly unfriendly, no greetings or hello. Just silence until I ordered, as I picked up my drink to leave I did the usual “thank you guys” 4 employees stood there but no response. I definitely recommend just getting beverages there

A great coffee shop that is serving some unique coffee drinks for adults and keikis.

The ube cold brew was both beautiful and delicious, with the sweet cream added. The haupia latte was also a great balance of sweetness and bitter coffee.

The bagels and toast were also worth the cost. Plenty of seating inside and outside, also had a drive thru.

Went here 3 times during our trip to big island. Coffee here is great. I had double espressos and my wife had iced lattes. Both were really good. Food was okay. Our sandwich breads were toasted one day but not the next day, which was weird.

I waited over 20 minutes in the drive-thru for one bagel sandwich. I was the only one in the drive-thru and few people inside. Employees were visible in the window standing and drinking water. They apologized and said they were “extremely busy”. I requested a refund and will likely not return due to their poor service and decrease in quality. The past few times my iced Ube latte has tasted worse than previous times when it was amazing.

I’ll start with food. We went with their toasts the prosciutto and fig was amazing! I steered clear of the pastry/baked goods case as for the moment there were several fruit flies and a fly inside. I chose an iced ube latte for my drink and was slightly disappointed as the flavoring got lost in the strong coffee, but i still love that the coffee was strong. Service could’ve been better.. I feel like because we are local we were not given friendly treatment. For example the thought like oh it’s a local I dont have to greet, I can walk with my chip on my shoulder, and give attitude. Maybe the worker was having a hard morning, but you shouldn’t be spreading that to customers. So to be fair I gave 3 stars instead of 2. The atmosphere is so lively. I love the pathos plants that dangle throughout the cafe.

Hico Coffee Spot was a bit of a letdown for us. We walked in with a lot of excitement, but the coffee turned out to be overly sweet with barely any coffee flavor. It looked good, but taste-wise, it just didn’t hit the mark—unfortunately, a fail for us.

If you find yourself in Hawaii and in need of a coffee fix, this place is a must-visit! The iced Ube latte is not only visually stunning with its vibrant purple color, but it’s also incredibly creamy and delicious. We also tried the iced haupia latte, which was perfectly creamy with a delightful hint of coconut.

For a bite to eat, the spinach and feta bagel was a standout—loaded with sun-dried tomatoes and egg, it was absolutely delicious and filling. The salmon lox toast was impressive too; they offered us a choice of one or two pieces of salmon, and I’m glad we opted for one—it was generous and filling!

Overall, this coffee shop delivered on flavor, quality at atmosphere. The interior of this place is a bit small and there’s only one bathroom so plan accordingly!

A little on the expensive side for coffee and bagels, but everything was delicious, so cannot complain! We went through the drive through, the staff was friendly, and food preparation was quick. Ordered and loved the feta and spinach bagel, my partner had the bacon and cheese bagel, and we split the caramel froshaka (which was a very tasty frappe). Each item was more than $10. Menu is available online and at the kiosk. There is very little parking around the shack and only one or two picnic tables. Enjoyed this stop very much! Chic and trendy.

Stopped in for a cup of Joe before doing the Captain Cook hike. Had a double shot Americano. Kona coffee is awesome… Super earthy and viscous. Prices here are really good too… $5 for the Americano!
