On our way from Franschhoek to Betty’s baai we took the scenic route along the Franschhoek Pass. This really nice, American Texas style BBQ smoke house was on our list to visit. As a BBQ food lover i heard and read alot about this smoke house. The smoke house is located in a large agricultural property and when diving upon the property you just know its going to be Worth it!
Sure was, we parked our car and the mist sprays – as it was hot – were already on to cool of the air . What a cool welkom.
The smoke house is set up as a real Texas style bbq shack with a terras deck and lots of room to zit down. A nice playlist music was playing in the background and they have a great menu with all kind of bbq meat to choose from and cold drinks.
We ordered a bbq platter as I had to try some different kind of meats. Colosal Ribs, Eisbein with mustard sauce and brisket. With coleslaw and breans ( with sweet meat in it) on the side.
Ow boy this was really serieus good bbq and I know as I am a all Year bbq’er as well in my country The Netherlands. The owner came up to our table for a chat. So positive and a friendly fellow . All together the lunch with three meat with sides, owner / service was really nice!

Wow wow wow! The food was delicious and all the meat dishes on the menu were so tender and juicy! The prices are good and the portions great! Prompt and friendly service from the staff and owners. I can highly recommend the beef ribs, that was my favourite out of all the meat dishes we had. The ice cream for dessert on a sugarcone or in a cup was the cherry on top! We will definitely be back

We celebrated my husband’s 40th at Hickville Smokehouse, and had an excellent experience. Our reserved table had a thoughtful Happy Birthday sign waiting for us, and the staff were warm, attentive and genuinely wonderful.
The food was incredible, and the venue has a great atmosphere.
100% recommend, and we’ll definitely be back!

We booked in advance. We were warmly welcomed. The waitress was friendly. The delicious food arrived quickly. Our son raved about the burger he ordered..the best burger ever..the bun was soft the pork with melt in your mouth smoked pull pork. The milk shakes were filling. Lovely location in nature. Very child friendly as well. Definitely not our last visit…Hickville Smokhouse may you go from strength to strength.

Fabulous out of town venue. If you want MEAT this is the place!! Beautiful setting. Kids and dogs friendly. I enjoyed the platter for four which was an ample serving. Ribs are delicious.

Wow! We stopped here for lunch on our way to Swellendam and are simply blown away! We ordered the brisket burgers and chips and are still trying to decide what we enjoyed the most! Then the homemade sauces…oh my word! Thank you to Patricia for great service and the warm welcome. We will stop in on our way back to Cape Town on Sunday. Can’t wait!

What is not to love at the Smokehouse? It is FAB!!
We have driven past for years en route to Hermanus and often wondered what was down the signposted road….. Now we know and only wish that we’d gone sooner!
Patricia gave us super friendly and efficient service, the decor is totally spot on for a Smokehouse (or what you might expect it to be!), there is loads of parking, and the food was absolutely top notch.
Our table enjoyed two lip-smacking platters – one snack-sized and the other full-size carnivore. The brisket and ribs were meltingly tender and tasty – simply the best. The Malva Pudding could only be improved with custard instead of ice cream, but it was proper nevertheless. The Folke and Goode beer also deserves a special shout-out, as does the house blend Rib Shack red.
The Smokehouse also does breakfast – and this is worth knowing if you are on that Hermanus/Garden Route trek. Forget the pies down the road and go for a real Hickville treat instead – you won’t be disappointed!
