The atmosphere was great, it was busy, you could here plenty of chatter, laughter and a few other birthdays as you occasionally hear Happy Birthday breakout when small cake/donut with a candle is brought to the table.
This brings me onto when I’ve marked the service down to 4 stars. We didn’t get our cake with a candle like everyone else. They knew it was a birthday and even added the happy birthday sign to our table, but they forgot the cake. It’s not big deal and not a show stopper, but I can’t in all honesty give 5 stars for service.
I’d recommend it, I’d advise booking especially if you have a big party as it was busy.
The only downside is I was hoping for a more extensive sides menu, I understand its out of the managers control as its a franchise however its the only thing its lacking. Given its American vibe you would of thought a bigger selection would be available.
What we did have was great, my son really enjoyed the mac and cheese and the milkshakes are amazing
Despite booking last minute, the team welcomed me without any fuss. The food was decent, but what truly stood out was the excellent service—attentive, kind, and genuinely celebratory.
To my surprise, they brought out a simple cake with a lit candle, just to mark the occasion. It was such a lovely gesture that made the day feel extra special.
Thank you, Hickory’s, for turning a spontaneous plan into a beautifully celebrated moment.
I recommend the fried pickles & Hog Heaven platter as its cheaper to have a small platter and try more of their great side dishes.
I <3 FRICKLES, best thing america has deep fried hands down.
Regarding my view on the service, I must say they are friendly and polite but not very attentive but I also appreciate they can be busy. However I do find that they do have a habit to disappear after your initial order but hey don’t let that put you off !
The atmosphere is always lively but still comfortable, and it feels like a place that’s well run. The food was exactly what you’d expect from Hickory’s — generous portions, good flavours, and nicely presented. The BBQ dishes are always a safe choice and the sides are just as enjoyable.
Service was also very good. Staff were friendly, attentive and checked in at the right times without being overbearing. Everything arrived in good time and the whole meal felt relaxed and enjoyable.
One thing Hickory’s does well is consistency. Whether it’s the food, the service, or the general atmosphere, it’s a place you can visit knowing you’ll have a good meal and a pleasant evening.
Definitely one of the better places to eat in the Crewe area and somewhere we’re always happy to return to.
Visted a few times since it was taken over by Greene King, food very underwhelming now. It’s not bad but it’s definitely lost it’s spark.
Had the hot honey chicken tacos for a starter which was luke warm, flavourless and tasted like birdeyes chicken.
Bird and the beast burger for main. Chicken was much smaller then it used to be and the beef burger was dry and underseasoned. The bun was very dry on top and must of been left under a heat lamp. You get lots of fries now to make up for the small main size.
Slaw used to taste so fresh, but now is a paprika flavoured cheap replacement.
Saw a review about it being cold in the restaurant and they aren’t wrong, sat by a radiator that was on, but was still freezing at the table.
Service was fine, no check back on either course though and starter only cleared away once the mains arrived.
Original Hickories set the standard high so any visit now can’t match it. If you’ve never been here before you’ll probably enjoy it, sadly if you have been before the last couple of years it will be a bitter disappointment.
