Reviews
I’ve been a long-term, loyal customer of Hickory Tavern, and what’s happening here right now is a textbook example of how to dismantle a well-run location.
Dana, the previous manager, was outstanding. She cared about her staff, respected her customers, and created a place people actually wanted to come back to. Replacing her with the current general manager, Robbie, was a massive downgrade in leadership and professionalism.
Tonight, Robbie publicly reprimanded our server, Madison, in front of a table of regulars during a football game, calling her unprofessional and lecturing her on how to “take care of her customers.” RIGHT IN FRONT OF US. That kind of behavior is unacceptable in any customer-facing business. Good leaders coach privately. Bad leaders posture publicly. LITTLE-DICK ENERGY.
What’s more concerning is the growing perception that this place is being quietly reshaped through favoritism. Several management and kitchen hires appear to be migrating over together from another restaurant group, and the culture shift is noticeable. Whether intentional or not, it feels less like thoughtful leadership and more like insiders circling the wagons, at the expense of staff morale and customer experience.
Madison did nothing wrong. She’s always on point.
She was attentive, professional, and exactly why many of us keep coming back. Robbie, on the other hand, made the atmosphere uncomfortable and dragged customers into internal power plays we never asked to witness.
If Hickory Tavern corporate cares about retention, reputation, or basic hospitality standards, they should take a hard look at what’s happening here. Long-time customers notice when good leadership is replaced with ego and when respect is no longer part of the culture.
This location used to be great. Right now, it’s actively heading in the wrong direction.
Honestly, it seems like they’re intentionally trying to tank this restaurant. I bet it’s closed in less than 6 months.
I made a reservation the day prior and it was easy and quick to make with a phone call.
The attention was great from the moment we walked in the door. The waitress was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, competent and quick. She didn’t hover, which allowed moments to talk and relax. She was attentive and stopped at our table at the right time.
I had a design your own salad and it was so good and filling! I ate half of it and brought the rest home. Two colleagues had burgers and loved them. One had shrimp and grits and if we were not in public, I’m positive he would have licked his bowl. The other had fish and chips, which she liked but would have preferred a little less cook time on the breading.
I would recommend this restaurant, and the waitress, whose name I failed to retain. Sorry.
But what really sets this location apart is the service, and that’s where Stephany truly shines. She was visible on the floor, checking on guests, supporting her staff, and handling everything with a genuine smile and calm professionalism. It’s clear she takes pride in creating a great experience for everyone who walks through the door. Her leadership shows in how smoothly everything runs.
If you’re looking for a spot with great food, friendly service, and a manager who clearly cares, this Hickory Tavern is absolutely worth a visit. I’ll definitely be back
And the service has been great with Bre. She is super cool. It took great care of me thank you girl. Appreciate you next time. I come back in town. I’ll come see you again.
