All I can say is I probably won’t be buying again. Went to order 3 backed potatoes, was then informed they only cook 4 a day. Went with the pulled pork and it IS delicious, get a rather large portion as well. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about the peach cobbler. Definitely the most disappointed I’ve been in awhile. Just plain bland. Whole experience isn’t worth $40 for one potato, 2 pulled pork sandwiches and 3 cobblers. We didn’t even order sides! I’ll just stick to PT’s

Hickory River Smokehouse is one of my FAVORITE places to eat. If you go (and you should) you need to try their ‘Cue Shoe. It takes the fan favorite horseshoe to a whole new level. The best part about Hickory River? They have a drive through! Not only can I get my ‘Cue Shoe at lunch time, but I don’t even have to get out of the car to get it. The staff is friendly and the service is great.

In town for work & was lucky enough to stumble upon this gem. Food was EXCELLENT! I tried nearly everything on the menu & found it all to my liking. Staff members exceeded expectations as they were friendly, courteous, and just the type of people I’d trust to prepare a great meal. I have been to other Hickory River locations & this one blows them all out of the water. Thank you for making my stay better Eric & team

Ordered loaded pulled pork nachos at drive up window due to broken headsets, per notice at menu board. Got home and found NO mixed sauce as asked for. Instead we had 2 bowls of chili (wife is pissed!). I ordered the Texas Cue-ban, what a disappointment! Bread was soggy and pickles were few. Only included 1 packet of plastic ware, we expected 2. The whole experience has us questioning if we will return. This has never been such a disappointment in all the years we’ve eaten there! What happened? Has this Hickory River been sold or is tonights experience the new norm? $30 for 2 meals, we expected better! On the plus side the lady was pleasant that took my order. Our order, # 73 at the Mt. Zion location may be our last! Improve or you won’t have anymore of my business!

It’s fast-food BBQ, you place your order at the counter and get your food within minutes. The customer service was exceptional, and there were plenty of options to customize your order. The meats were the highlight of my meal, except for the excessive sauce poured on them. The sides were good but not particularly noteworthy. The one thing I would do differently on my next visit is to request the BBQ sauce on the side.

Edit: 11/28/2023: Since my earlier review, I’ve eaten again at HR, and my pulled pork sandwich was perfect this time around! My faith in HR has been restored! On another note, we ordered the Thanksgiving dinner from HR. The turkey was prepared to perfection and delicious. The side dishes tasted just like they were home-made. We’ve been ordering Thanksgiving dinners from HR now for several years. The dinners have been exceptional every time. I admit we’ve strayed a couple of times by ordering from the big chain restaurants like BE and CB. Eh, they were okay I guess. Neither hold a candle next to HR for flavor, quality, and value for the money. Family members ask for leftovers and there’s always plenty of leftovers to send home.
