A very solid stop in Urbana if you like smoked meats and savory sides. I got the daily sandwich special for $12.99 which was quite filling. The meats were good and the only thing is change is ordering a spicier bbq sauce but that’s my preference.
They also have a drive thru but the interior is worth a look!

Food was hot and decent for mid illinois. Ribs , brisket, etc were all very smokey. Mac n cheese tasted like velveeta, beans were seasoned w chili powder, slaw was vinegar and sweet. Slaw was good. Cornbread was very dense and sweet. Butter was provided. Place was very clean. Service was great. Very polite and friendly.

Some of the driest and toughest brisket i’ve ever had. I spent $30 for the Smokehouse 2 combo. The ribs were okay just barely any meat on them. Baked beans were great and so was the chili & cornbread. Just really need to season the meat more and make it less dry and tough. The man at the counter was nice and explained the menu very well so complaints on service at all!

I got a half chicken, and it was so dry. Their BBQ sauce is very delicious and managed to salvage it, but on it’s own was flavorless and dry
Cornbread was good but fell apart. Very, very crumbly.
Dryness was an issue for the beef brisket as well.
Okra was really good. Mac and cheese was alright.
Service was okay. Had a bit of trouble at one point trying to get their attention to get some butter and they forgot some Texas toast with one of our meals.
Not a terrible place but not impressed either.

I usually love this place. Today changed that for me. The young lady making sandwiches and food behind the main food counter is absolutely not kind. I always get the same sandwich, o praise hickory river usually for having no or almost no fat on their sandwich. Today I got a fat filled sandwich, like ever piece of meat was half fat and half gristle. So I took it up and asked if it would be possible to get another sandwich, she rudely put meat on a tray, sliced in 3 inch slices, no bun no sauce. I then said well I do need a bun. She threw a bun on the tray and gave me a dirty look. I then said, man I complain about my sandwich and still can’t get it right. If looks could kill, I would be dead. This took my favorite bbq place to my least favorite real quick. No apology, honestly not a word spoken . Just mean looks and the looks of inconvenience to help a customer.

I had eaten at the Springfield location and loved the brisket chili so wanted to eat here while in Champaign. Food wasn’t quite as good, didn’t seem as hot or fresh. Chili was still good enough that I got a quart to take home. My wife is very picky about pulled pork (hates it when it’s too fatty) and really liked the pulled pork in her sandwich. The people at the restaurant weren’t quite as friendly as the one in Springfield either. I’d still return.

Last week, I visited this location with my friends. The brisket and waffle fries were must-tries, and everything else was equally impressive. The portions were big too. I’ll definitely be returning to this place when I visit Champaign again.

Decent BBQ, a bit underwhelmed by the sides. Smoked turkey was amazing, Polish sausage delicious, ribs…meh…corn bread was so dry and so not tasty.
