Perfect place if you are in the mood for good food. kC strip with loaded mashed potatoes and bacon wrapped filet with sweet mashed. Appetizer sampler with cheese curds, pickles and bacon wrapped shrimp which were delicious! Came with soup or salad and the creamy potato was the soup of the day. Also came with warm dinner rolls and whipped honey butter. Many other options on the menu like seafood and pasta…maybe next time. Eh Oscar?

I got the Bierock Philly Sandwich, and my wife got a 14 oz KC Strip Steak. The steak was superbly grilled to a medium rare (that she ordered), and my sandwich was next-level – the cabbage was perfectly seasoned, cut, and cooked to make this the best Philly sandwich anyone is likely to get in Kansas. Our server, Amy, was attentive and speedy. And they carried local craft brews, something that adds charm. And lastly, on a frigid day, they didn’t hold back making the placy cozy and warm. This is a 5 star steakhouse by any measure.

Staying the night in Hays and stopped here to eat. Our server, Mason, was outstanding- friendly and very efficient. The food was quick to come out, delicious, and very reasonably priced. This is a great place!

Was visiting Hays Kansas for the Eucharistic conference August 9th and 10th that was happening at Fort Hays State University in Hays Kansas. Always heard their commercials on the radio and our group decide to try this restaurant. Excellent service by the young gentleman that served our table and he was able to get all the orders accurately and correct. He was able to split the checks between the separate parties professionally. He was very good server and knowledgeable. My friends that were along for the Eucharistic conference had seafood and chicken fried steak. My son also had chicken fried steak. I had the 10 oz KC strip sirloin it was very good and cooked a perfection. The timing of the appetizers in the salad was also great!

The service was great, friendly and attentive, and the food was very good. But on discussing with my husband, we’ve had better for the prices. Not complaining though, nothing was wrong with our orders. I first ordered salmon but they were out of salmon, so I chose old bay shrimp with Brussels sprouts as a side. Nice salad of mixed greens and vegetables, the shrimp were large, more than I could eat. The rib eye was very good, I’m told, but after ordering We were told that market price would be $5 more than menu price. I think it was $27 or $28 (which is why I say it was good, but wasn’t *that* special). We recommend, but will probably only splurge here once (we don’t come to Hays often, so we like to try a different restaurant each time).

Had a nice evening meal as I’m stopping for the night. The fried cheese were absolutely delectable. The steak perfectly done. The salad and potato was great as well. The rolls and butter were amazing.

9-months later update:
Oscar, please do everyone a favor and sell your restaurant to someone who actually cares. Your staff is to kind to be putting up with you.
-Uncomfortable silence due to the owner not giving service staff access to music controls
-Bland tasting food
-Disgusting restaurant head to toe (see photos of the state of the men’s restroom)
-Just a disappointment of a restaurant both times I have gone

Oscar, you’ve done nothing in the last 9 months to make your restaurant any better whatsoever. Im honestly amazed youre still open.
Service staff was very nice. But the food tasted bland like the cafeteria food served in schools. It took 3 attempts to get my steak cooked the correct way. And there was absolute silence in the restaurant due to the owner not giving their staff access to the music player. Also, the sinks in the bathroom have very little water pressure.
A message to the owner:
Your staff did fine, the problem is with you.
I don’t know what supplier you use for truck. But whatever one it is, you need to make them like you so that you get good ingredients to cook with. Also, it feels like the reason you own the place is because you think it will make money instead of you actually caring about the food you serve.

No one in the party got steak so keep that in mind. After careful consideration I believe the value and quality of the food were just enough to earn a five star. The rolls, soup, and salad were a solid start to the meal. The entrees were filling and had good flavor but did not stand out in any way. That said, each entree was only about $14 so I really am not sure where you can eat this much above average food at that price.

We have eaten here twice during our travels in Kansas. The first time the food and service were excellent. The food was seasoned great. The fried mushrooms are the best. We came back a second time a few months later. The service was still excellent, but the food was not seasoned as well as the first time we visited. The fried mushrooms were still tasty. We will stop here again if in the area, at least for the mushrooms, and to try something new on the menu.
