WOW! My wife & I were blown away by this phenomenal find located just off highway 30 in The Dalles. We had hoped the cuisine would be on par with the decor in this classy but comfortable retro-vibe restaurant the is reminiscent of cool joints from a bygone era. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and the quality of the food surpassed all of our expectations. The next surprise was our server Mary Ann who may actually be an advanced AI by the way she recited 6 or more appetizer specials and at least that many dinner specials; yes, count them: 6 specials each! The precision and articulation were superhuman and a sight to behold. Raving about a super-fresh salad dotted with strawberry & blueberries, parmesan cheese and real-chunky blue cheese dressing may sound like a reach, but wow, when you taste FARM FRESH you then realize how you’ve been missing out. The crown jewel of tonight’s dinner, however, was the perfectly prepared generous razor clams, lightly fried and BURSTING with coastal flavor. My gaaad those were AMAZING. I had the mash and my wife had the baked potato side. HUGE fresh cherries and delicious green beans adorned and rounded out the entree. Craft Beer and stunning Italian Sav Blanc with generous pours capped the evening. The Hi-Way house, its cuisine, decor and service easily earned 10 stars. What are you waiting for? The oysters Rockefeller are simply the best ever for both their presentation and delectable scrumptious taste. Clam Chowder? OMG, this is the perfect balance that’s not too creamy and not too thin. French Sav Blanc and boneyard IPA paired perfectly with this incredible cuisine. THE BIGGEST BONUS….our servers Jayme & Mary Ann. Mary Ann, a cheerful dining & cuisine encyclopedia. And Jayme (reunited after 20 years) the sweetest and ALWAYS smiling, makes the energizer bunny look slow, was voted CHAMPION in WORLD’S BEST SERVER competition (by my wife & I) is icing on the cake is such a joyous delight. Yes, Hi Way House….20 STARS. That just happened.

First time here and very impressed. It was busy but we got seated rather quickly. They had a live violinist and he played songs I actually recognized. The atmosphere was on the romantic side and the staff was attentive. The food was really good as I had the Parmesan cod and my husband the salmon. The drinks were strong like we like it. Although we were stuffed they surprisingly gave us complimentary peppermint ice cream and small glass of prosecco. Will definitely be back again to try the steaks.

The food! The wine! The service! First time coming to this restaurant and we were greeted like we were family. We sat at the u-shaped bar that was very cozy and comfortable. I had a beautiful and very generous pour of Malbec; that one glass lasted me from the appetizer, a delectable coconut shrimp with a sweet chilli sauce, through the entree of perfectly prepared end-cut prime rib, to the incredible panna cotta for dessert. My husband wanted a warm cocktail with hot chocolate as the base and our bartender Deb whipped up this yummy, warm and fuzzy blend of hot chocolate, baileys, and vanilla vodka that made him smile and yearn for more. Super friendly, cool atmosphere, excellent service, and succulent food! We are fans for sure.

A legendary The Dalles restaurant that’s better than ever! Lily and Romul Grivov and their team are doing an outstanding job. Steaks and burgers, pastas and razor clams, chicken and eggplant Parmesan—everything is excellent. Complimentary ice cream at the end is a sweet touch. The bar pours generously, with consistently great wines by the glass. A longtime locals’ favorite and a go-to for celebrations, it’s also fun to see folks from all over the Gorge discovering the Hi-Way House.

This is our “go to” restaurant for birthday’s and anniversary. We love the prime rib. The side salads are always so delicious with a few blueberries and strawberries in with the greens. The wait staff is friendly and fills my water often (I’m a big water drinker)! Quaint ambiance, good food, reasonable prices. You can go dressed up or in jeans.

Everything paired with fabulous fine wines from nearby Shadowbuck Estate Winery. The service and hospitality from staff and the owner is stellar. Cozy vibe with friendly and attentive staff. Food was delicious and the price is very comparable to other options in town. They have burgers, steak, pasta and seafood options. And one of the larger dessert menus in town.

First impression is the parking lot is very small and parking is difficult as your only option is to park along the highway if full.
Got a table for one around 6pm on a Thursday. I was brought a basket of cold bread. The bread wasn’t great. They have oil and balsamic on the table but the quality of it is quite low and not a suitable oil and balsamic for dipping.
I ordered the Philly prime rib sandwich with a cup of mushroom soup. The soup was great. The sandwich was okay. I would prefer if the meat had been seared with crispy edges as a Philly traditionally is. The sandwich had very little onions and peppers and again not a great sear on them. The sandwich also came with ajus. Was offered complimentary ice cream for dessert which was a nice addition. Overall it was okay. Probably would try something different next time but would go back and try.

I had the salmon special of the day. Just the zucchini itself is the best I have ever had! It was so flavorful, you can tell that the chef is taking the time to make all of the food so delicious.
