I have ordered from this restaurant multiple times before, and my previous experiences were positive, which is why this situation was especially disappointing.
Before preparing my order, the restaurant contacted me to confirm a substitution only for the salmon & tuna combo due to tuna being unavailable, which I approved. No changes to the California Roll Combo were discussed or approved.
According to the menu, the California Roll Combo includes specific items (California roll, two salmon, two tuna, one ebi, and one Tai nigiri sushi). However, the items I received were completely different from what was advertised.
This order was meant for a special evening, and unfortunately the incorrect order significantly affected the experience. It has already been a night since this happened, and I am still feeling disappointed by how it was handled.
I understand that ingredient shortages can happen, but changes to a specific combo should be clearly communicated and approved in advance. I hope the restaurant addresses this issue and improves communication going forward.

Seemingly nice restaurant… Until you see the exterior. Absolute rats nest right behind the restaurant, right next to the back door. Can’t imagine they WOULDN’T be absolutely infested when this is how they leave their property.

The restaurant was very empty around 8pm weekdays so I was a bit cautious when I walked in. However, they’re better than our expectations, especially at a very affordable pricing. We shared a couple dishes and I would recommend their tempura udon on a cold night, hearty & clean flavour. Their tempura batter was very thin & crispy, tempura weren’t oily at all. The salmon & avocado roll was simply good. Tbh, I don’t like the beef teriyaki due to sweet marinate but each of their own. Our waitress was very nice and efficient, and the restaurant looked clean.

I ordered online, they took my $52.. no confirmation, I tried calling the phone number to see if they received my order …phone number not in service. Order status said pending for 30 minutes. I walked over there and they are closed…. now I have to do a charge back on my card because they took my money???? worse thing is: my employer generously offered to buy me lunch on his card and now my boss needs to manage a charge back 🙂 awesome…. so thanks Hi Dozo! 5 years ago I wrote you a 5 star review but I have now deleted it. Very dissapointed.

Pleasantly surprised by how good and fresh the sushi is here. We ordered two sashimi dinner combos for $21.95 each to go and it was quite amazing. It came with so many different food items for a fixed price and the portions were great. It saves you from ordering items which are more expensive individually if you are craving different things.
Our dinner sashimi combo came with a choice of terriyaki chicken or beef (we chose the chicken which had great flavour and fire wok vibes), you can then also choose 2 out of 3 of gomae, agedashi tofu, or chicken karaage, and you also get assorted tempura that was crisp and freshly fried with shrimp and pumpkin and more, a bowl of rice, a bowl of miso soup, and assorted sashimi with tuna, salmon, and surf clam, and 4 California rolls! It’s a great meal and deal!
Everything was packaged so perfectly and with care to go! Loved it!

This was the very bad Japanese food I ever had before. Only one man or staff to serve whole restaurant. Poor food quality, tiny portion and unreasonable price, have diarrhea after that dinner. I will never go there again.

Restaurant seems nice. We got take out, and saw many other take out orders.
Portions were a bit small but good quality. The miso soup was creamy and had nice big pieces of seaweed. We ordered a variety of nigiri and had their House roll (regular tuna instead of spicy), which they easily accommodated.

UNDER RATED! My favourite sushi place in new west, if you’re looking for affordable healthy food (or not so healthy) look no further. Their house salad is the most delicious salad I’ve had in my life. The staff are very nice, it’s incredibly affordable, it’s real cute too. But the fooodddddd omggggggg I can go there and fill up on sushi for like 10 bucks? Depending on how fancy I go. There’s an awesome variety. I literally don’t eat raw fish and I’m a pretty picky eater. But literally every time I go I find something new I like and I’ve been there so many times. It’s also so chill in there because not enough people come, so you have space and don’t feel rushed. Sometimes I just draw there and eat sushi for like hours.

Have been to Hi Dozo Sushi a couple of times now after shopping at the mall across the street. The food is hit and miss. The first few times we went, the food was of a seasoned sushi chef. The past couple times, we noticed the same chef in 2 instances where our sushi was thin, sloppy, and fell a part. Not at all what we had with the other chef. The service is also lack luster. When we walked in the last time, the host pointed in a general direction of being seated. Not led to a table like a proper host. We were not even sure if we were sitting at the right table. Asking for more tea, or the bill seemed like something we shouldn’t have to do. The times the food was great were awesome, but the last few times made us not want to return.
