Came in with my wife on a busy Saturday night but managed to find seating at the bar that we we’re more than happy with. Started with the meatball lollipops and the pork belly apps which were phenomenal. Followed it up with a ceasar and flank steak. Great dressing on the ceasar and a perfect temp on the steak. We will be back!

We had a nice night at Herd. The meal we had was very good. Fried oysters, house made pork belly, flat iron steak, soft shelled crab special, and poached pear. Everything was well cooked. Seafood was fresh and not overcooked, and the steak was done a perfect medium rare. The flavors were good, but not quite balanced. The crab showed some real talent, and sense of whimsy. Poached pear was nice and not too sweet thankfully, but it was cold. The decor is nice and modern, and matched the theme the owner was going for. The location is nothing special, and the Christmas lights in the window were not needed. Drinks were well made. Our server, and the service overall was excellent. We will be back. This restaurant seems like it is on the right track.

Easily some of the best burgers we have ever had. We got the Heart-a-Quack and the Goat-Herder. We also had their killer cheese curds-with-truffle-honey. Large portions, good atmosphere, and great service. Highly recommend. (We ordered the burgers off their pub menu – the restaurant is split into a bar/pub section and a nice sit-down restaurant dining room. You can order pub menu items in either place, but happy hour pricing is only available in the pub. Just fyi!)

We had a party of four and two of us arrived before my girlfriend and I. They said that the main dining room was apparently booked out, but we were able to get a decent table in the pub area. No problem, very comfortable bar stools. Nice atmosphere and decent food. I had the polenta appetizer and the fettuccine/mushroom entree. Both were good but a little heavy-handed with the truffle oil. Tried some of the buffalo cauliflower and it was alright, would have been better with a bit more crispiness. Service was on the slow side, but it didn’t really bother me. The other people with us had been there twice before and loved it, they said it seemed like an off night for the service. Overall it was a nice meal, I will definitely go back and check it out again!

We were here about 2 months after they opened and we definitely loved the food and were not impressed with the service. decided we would give it another chance as we were really excited to have a steak house in Middletown.
Over a year later the same result food was very good, wine was good but the service absolutely sucked, long wait times, ran out of all specials. Very sad to see but I think they need some new management with restaurant experience. I hope they do what is needed to get the help they need and make this a great place. :0(

Maybe it was just the wrong night to eat there. It took forever to get our meals because the kitchen wasn’t communicating with the wait staff who had to return to the table several times to tell us what wasn’t available to go with what we ordered. And some function had been going on before we arrived so patrons were dragging tables and chairs around on their own to rearrange the seating. And our waitress was brand new but learning. The food was good but I’m glad we just ordered from the bar menu. Having main room meals with these problems would have been intolerable.

This place has potential – the food is good but the staff and ambience don’t match what they are trying to pull off. Website and cocktail list set the bar high, but then looking at the menu, there’s no special or unique dishes, all very basic. The lighting is too bright, and the tables/chairs make me feel like I’m eating lunch at a sushi restaurant. Curtains could use replacement. The kitchen seemed very behind and the wait staff showed no empathy for the waiting customers. It took forever to get our food, the couple next to us were banging on their glasses with spoons just to get the attention of the wait staff. The manager showed very little empathy as well, and at that point we decided it wasn’t worth a second visit.

After being recommended by a friend we went to Herd on a Saturday night. It was a half full bar area and pretty busy in the dining room, so not sure if they can handle a busy night. It took 15 minutes to get someone to take our drink order, then it took 50 minutes to get our overcooked pork belly appetizer. Our entrees came out shortly after that with a small apology. The short ribs were really good, so I was at least thankful for that. A kettle and soda in a tiny rocks glass cost $16!

The service was great! Good food and surprisingly good wine. The sauce served on the side with the New York strip steak was superfluous, but the dish itself was tasty. I am definitely coming back to try more.
