Really great food (ground meat and shredded chicken could use a little more seasonings), waitress was great, house Marg’s were great and Gordita dinner was amazing with real corn meal shell. Sangria also amazing as well. Our kiddos also had a place to stay busy. Sit outside if weather is nice, great patio and scenery.

Herbert’s in New Braunfels is continuing excellence from the original Herbert’s on Riverside Drive in San Marcos from 1972. Recently had lunch there during the week and their lunch specials will get you out of there, full and happy for $10 plus tip. That includes iced tea, chips and salsa, and tortillas. Friendly service and a traditional atmosphere.

There is a sign outside that says wait to be seated, but no one came out to seat us. I went inside to be seated and was met with a smile and a baby behind the register. The service was fast, and the waitress was smiling, so that was good. The food was bland and the margarita that I ordered was terrible. It tasted as if it was in a container for weeks and it was very strong, but not in a good way. The atmosphere at lunch was cool, but nothing special. The esthetics of the place was typical of most Mexican food establishments.

***MILITARY DISCOUNT*** Margaritas are strong and delicious The Ambiance is fantastic. Bathrooms are quite small and the floors are greasy I’m there. The food is yummy and nice size servings. Plenty of options for Vegetarians which is a bonus. The inside dinning area is so colorful and festive. I have never seen chairs and tables quite like these. Makes everything feel authentic. The outdoor area is huge with plenty of space to spread out. They have a playground and basketball court to keep the kiddos busy while the adults enjoy conversation and the delicious Margaritas! Definitely a must visit if you are passing through or live right around the corner.

It’s really pretty at night with all the lights on the outdoor patio area. The food was pretty good and seemed to come out pretty quickly despite there being a large group that had come in right before us. Our waitress was attentive, friendly and really listened to what we ordered. I just wish they were open later.

Totally loved this spot! I can’t believe I never had heard of it being a long time resident in nearby city and always in NB. The location was easy to find. Fast service..ordered food and was served within 15 minutes of ordering. My parents are elderly and shared a meal and still took home leftover. Enchilada/ gravy both wonderful as well as their tortillas. Plenty of parking. Also noticed outside patio that appeared to have lots of room! Only one thing..watch your step…my parents had to hold on to me because floors go into a small dip..hard to notice on a couple of spots. Otherwise 5 thumbs up!
