Reviews
It was a joy not only to taste the food but also to watch the careful, thoughtful preparation behind every plate. The flavors were excellent, the progression of courses felt seamless, and I left with that perfect feeling of satisfied fullness.
There is no doubt that this restaurant fully deserves its Michelin one-star rating. A truly memorable dining experience.
The only thing I found disappointing was that, although I mentioned it was our wedding anniversary when making the reservation, nothing was acknowledged at all. The staff’s prepared guests’ birthday cakes, special party hats, cards and even a moment where the lights were turned off so everyone in the room could celebrate together. In contrast, our table didn’t receive even a simple mention of our anniversary.
Every dish was outstanding: Zeppole with Lobster and Celery Remoulade, Citrus Salad, Green Butter Baked Oysters, Black Trumpet Boudin Blanc, French Onion Soup Lasagnetta (elevated with black truffle—highly recommend!), Beef Cheek Daube with bone marrow and sourdough, plus my add-on Skate Cheek which was superb. Finished perfectly with Tarte Tatin and vanilla ice cream, plus those heavenly mini salted sourdough chocolate chip cookies.
Wine pairings (Chardonnay and Gamay) were spot-on, pacing and portions ideal. Not inexpensive, but worth every penny—especially as a new Michelin-starred gem in Philly. A thoughtful Christmas gift I’ll never forget. Highly recommend treating yourself!
I liked the quail, which was nicely cooked. I liked the savory soufflé—very nice execution. Overall, it is a cute thoughtful tasting menu, being a nice addition to the Philly dining scenes.
What disappointed us is that we ordered add-ons, but the waitress missed it for whatever reason, and didn’t care to find out how or apologize. The group lecture before the courses was a bit too long and I didn’t really know which is which before I really get to see the dishes.
It was okay, but not an impressive Michelin star. We wanted to try her place for long time, and it was hard to get in after they were awarded the star. I was underwhelmed.
This is not to say that I would not recommend Her Place. I absolutely would! I still very much enjoyed the experience, but when something is this hyped I imagine its hard to live up to the expectation. The philly food scene is very competitive these days.
When I walked in, it is a small place with 11 tables. Feel very welcomed, like went to someone’s house for dinner. It is a fixed menu, no substitute, you eat what they cook. And everything was great! very fresh and just good! I don’t know how to describe it. It feels like fancy home cooking.. very unique experience. For sure I will go back again! I would love to try their new menu!
What I ate: started with cheese made cracker with foie grass and jam, seafood salad ( the scallops was very unique, I had to eat a bit to figure out), rabbit croquettes (soft tender in the middle, crispy outside), salad (refreshing with a little bitterness to balance out the deep fried croquettes), squash ravioli (oh the skin is so chewy and the squash was just taste so yummy), skate wings( wow mix the meat with the sauce.. heavenly), and finished with apple walnut cake ( my favorite!!! My god it was so moist… I need to figure out how it was done) oh we all got a little cookie and pretzel at the end.. for sure it was one of my best restaurant experience. Not only the food, but the entire experience. Forgot we got extra chicken sausage, it was good, but was too much food for me.
Verdict: I will be back! #4 restaurant in my Beli list
We enjoyed the description of each dish by the chefs and appreciate that most of the ingredients are sourced from local farms and vendors.
The menu changes every 3 weeks and there are no substitutions. They’re open Mon-Fri, with 26 seats, and 2 seatings, so reservations aren’t easy to get.
The energy was great and the food was excellent! I highly recommend!
3 drinks between 2 people along with the tasting menu and 1 $27 add on of rabbit pasta and with tip was around $350 for 2 people. You just expect a little more at that price point. Still a good time and nice to check it out once.
