Henry’s World Famous Hi-Life – Visit San Jose

A great American steakhouse and barbecue joint if there ever was one. Henry’s has been cranking out slabs and racks of meat for over 60 years.

The eating experience is a little different here, but the food is excellent. It’s mostly meat, with basic salads and southern sides (Mac n cheese, baked potato). The plates are huge, so plenty of leftovers. No desserts though. When you arrive, as soon as your whole party is present, tell a server you’re ready, because you don’t get on the waiting list to get a table until AFTER you order, and you need your entire party present to order. There is a 10-15 minute delay after you order, before you’re seated, and the only menu in the dining room is drinks. The salads are waiting for you when you sit. Efficient service and great food, super friendly staff. This place has a long history in San Jose, so it’s worth visiting, but try to be there when they open and don’t go when there’s an event at SAP Center (crazy crowded). Parking is limited, only on the street (and it’s metered, but you can pay by credit card).

It’s not your typical high-end steak house, but it’s definitely a steak house that serves high-end steaks. At least the filet mignon I had was perfect! Very laid back, blue collar type crowd which makes the place comfortable and relaxing. The wait was rather long because of a concert down the street, but it was worth the wait. Don’t fill up on bread before the steak arrives!

This is an awesome place .First, you come into a bar setting. Take a number and place your order, and I will say, like, 5 minutes you’re seated, and they just start bringing your food. Very different and amazing food we even was able to order more food togo.

Really delicious, tender and juicy full rack of baby back ribs that my wife and split. They also let us get an extra salad and baked potato for the split. The bread with bbq dipping sauce was also delicious. Finally, they have an amazing 24 tap selection of really great local craft beer.

The place is a quick order since you order before the table is ready giving a faster wait time. An interesting way to make service faster. It only works when know email which due to location suggest to check menu on phone.

“If you’re looking for a classic steakhouse experience, Henry’s World Famous Hi-Life in San Jose is definitely worth a visit. Their T-bone steak is a standout dish, with a generous portion size (16oz) and perfectly cooked meat that is flavorful and juicy. The sides of baked potato, salad and garlic bread toast complemented the steak well, and the service was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere of the restaurant is cozy and nostalgic, with vintage decor and old-school charm. Overall, Henry’s World Famous Hi-Life is a great choice for anyone craving a delicious steak and a trip back in time.”

This place is not what you think. We have seen it for a while and finally gave it a shot. We seated outside because we have a dog so they are pet friendly. They have a good bar place inside that we saw because we were looking for someday to guide us or a host, nothing.

This restaurant been here for a while and am sure the building is older than the restaurant which makes it a nice historic location in the heart of San Jose. Their menu is on the wall, you pick your food and get your number, enjoy some drinks at the bar if you want until your name/number gets called and you get seated with your starter (salad with your choice of dressing) and waiting for you at your table. Good service. The prime rib served only two days out of the week is really good. Wish they had more sides to pick from. Tried ordering the bbq mushroom and bbq onion – both is a no go! The garlic bread is scrumptious. And to the main event – the baby back ribs! All served with baked potato on the side. We enjoyed it all. We also sat outside making our experience merrier. Will come back to taste the bbq salmon and the chicken.

This place was fun. It’s like an old restaurant that’s been around forever. It has a cozy bar area with small old TVs, you can chill waiting for a table. Food is more of a home-made style. We ordered chix & baby back ribs combo cause we were not that hungry and it was enough for 2 people. chicken was a bit dry for me, but baby back ribs were soft. + side of mushroom, mac & cheese (it was my least favorite cause pasta felt overcooked; it almost melts right away in the mouth).
