I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, and it was very dry and hard. The portion of chicken was extremely small — more like a single grilled chicken tender on bread than an actual sandwich. My alcoholic beverage also arrived with black particles floating in it. When I brought it to the waiter’s attention, I was told it was from a “pepper drink” that I didn’t order but somehow ended up in mine. It didn’t look like spice — it honestly looked like debris in the glass, which was very off-putting.
My in-law ordered the nachos, and the chips were completely covered in heavy seasoning. He’s diabetic and couldn’t finish them because of how overly seasoned they were. My wife ordered French fries, and they were also coated in seasoning to the point that she couldn’t finish hers either.
The service was also confusing and unorganized. Before we even ordered, the female server specifically asked if we wanted two separate checks. We confirmed yes, and she even wrote it down. However, she disappeared midway through our meal and a different waiter began assisting us without explanation. When the bill came, it was brought as one single check — the exact opposite of what we had requested. It was frustrating, especially after she had already confirmed and noted our request. To make things more awkward, she reappeared when it was time to pay and collect the tip.
Overall, the experience did not match the price point. I wouldn’t recommend Henry’s and won’t be returning.
If I could rate the food alone, Henry’s Tavern in Denver would get a solid 5 stars. The flavors, presentation, and overall quality of the dishes were genuinely impressive. Unfortunately, everything else about the experience fell completely flat—and the service was so bad it overshadowed the meal entirely.
We were seated in a booth shortly after arriving, and right away the host informed us that we could not get happy hour pricing if we sat there. That set the tone. We weren’t asking for anything special—just a table to enjoy some drinks and a meal—but it was strange that they wouldn’t let us sit in the back tables and then penalized us for where they sat us.
From there, the service spiraled downhill. It took 12 minutes—yes, we timed it—just to get water after we sat down. And that was with only one server working our section, who had just three tables. In a nearly empty dining room, that’s ridiculous. We were barely acknowledged, and it felt like we had to wave our arms just to get basic attention.
Ordering was slow, drink refills were basically nonexistent unless we asked (and sometimes even then they didn’t come promptly), and when it was time to leave, getting our check was another test of patience. It took far too long to flag someone down, and even longer for the check to arrive. Clearing the table? Same story. At one point it felt like they’d forgotten we existed.
I understand that sometimes restaurants are short-staffed, but this wasn’t that. The server wasn’t slammed with a large section, and there didn’t seem to be any sense of urgency or hospitality. It was more like we were inconveniencing them by being there.
It’s such a shame, because the kitchen is clearly doing great work. The food truly deserves recognition—it was the one bright spot of the entire experience. But a restaurant is more than just food. Service, attentiveness, and basic respect for the guest’s time matter just as much, and here, all of that was missing.
Bottom line: I won’t be back. I can’t justify spending money at a place that delivers this level of service, no matter how good the food is. There are plenty of restaurants in Denver that can serve up great meals and treat their guests well. Sadly, Henry’s Tavern is not one of them.
Visited Henry’s Tavern last weekend, and it was a mixed experience. The place has a slightly upscale vibe with its bar-focused menu, but it still feels like a casual tavern. The food was average—my burger was cooked fine but lacked any standout flavors, and the sides were just okay. My wife had the seared tuna, as pictured, which was decent but not particularly memorable. Nothing bad, but nothing that wowed us either. The staff was a highlight; they were attentive and checked in regularly, which made the service feel polished. The atmosphere was alright—lively enough for a bar, but the decor and music didn’t leave much of an impression. I’d probably come back for drinks with friends, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for the food.
I sat at the bar and it took awhile before the bartender got to me and despite not many people being there, he looked overwhelmed. I ordered a beer and wings.
The food came out fairly quickly and the wings were amazing. They were big, cooked just right, and I was impressed.
When I got my check, I had been charged full price for the wings instead of the happy hour price, so I asked for it to be corrected. The bartender apologized and made the correction.
Overall, I think Henry’s would be a fun place to visit with friends, they have shuffleboard, and other games and the venue is really big so I imagine it gets pretty busy during sporting events and on weekends. Overall, as a daytime visit, I wasn’t overly impressed, but I wasn’t disappointed either.
4 stars because I see the potential of the place and think I may have just visited at an odd time.
I love that they are able to pull up the sides of the building so people can sit at tables inside but still be completely open to the outside. Location is perfect for people watch.
I visited Henry’s Tavern on a Saturday night, a time when you’d expect a restaurant to be operating at its best — fully staffed, energized, and ready to handle the evening crowd. Unfortunately, what I experienced was quite the opposite and deeply disappointing.
From the moment we walked in, the tone was set by a rude and visibly uninterested hostess. I greeted her politely and informed her of our party size, but she barely acknowledged me, said nothing welcoming, and instead raised a fan to her face with an annoyed “okay.” There was no smile, no greeting, and no professionalism — it felt like she didn’t want to be there at all. The only time she seemed remotely engaged or cheerful was when she was flirting with one of the waiters, completely ignoring the fact that guests were entering and waiting to be seated. This level of disinterest at the front of house is unacceptable, especially on a busy weekend night.
Once seated, the service unfortunately didn’t improve. Our waiter took an unusually long time to approach our table, and even then, service was inattentive and slow. Drink and food orders took far too long to arrive, and no one communicated any delays or offered an apology. When we needed refills or wanted to order additional items, we had to walk to the bar ourselves, as the staff was nowhere to be found or simply ignoring tables.
To make matters worse, the restaurant lacked basic cleanliness and operational oversight. Tables remained unbussed, restrooms were untidy with paper on the floor, and staff members carried themselves as if they were irritated to be working. If there was a manager on duty, they made no effort to engage with guests or correct any of the clear service breakdowns. When one did deliver food, they simply dropped it off and walked away, ignoring our requests.
The most disappointing part of all this is that the food itself was excellent — flavorful, well-prepared, and deserving of praise. But even great food can’t make up for poor service, disorganization, and an unwelcoming atmosphere.
For a Saturday evening — arguably one of the most important nights in hospitality — the lack of care, focus, and respect for the customer was alarming. Henry’s Tavern seriously needs to reevaluate its front-of-house operations. Until there’s a major improvement in service, I cannot recommend this location. Guests deserve better — especially on a night when expectations are at their highest.
The space is very nice, with both booth and table options. They have windows that open.
I had the Bison burger with fries. It has bacon, Bleu cheese, and onion straws. It was really good, and definitely filling.
The staff was friendly and the food came out quickly.
