Henry’s Hot Dog Company in Salyersville is one of those places that feels like home the minute you walk up. Set inside a remodeled Airstream trailer with a rustic outdoor seating area, it’s got that laid-back “sit and stay awhile” charm that fits an Eastern Kentucky evening perfectly. The staff is friendly, familiar, and part of a long family tradition that runs deep in this county.

The real star here is Mama Bertha’s hot dog sauce. If you grew up anywhere near downtown Salyersville, you’ll recognize it instantly. This is the same sauce that has followed the family from restaurant to restaurant over the years—whether you remember it from the original Dairy Queen, or from the days when Lee’s Famous Recipe secretly served $5 footlong hot dogs with wedges and an L-8 on the side. It was a sad day when that ended, but seeing that Airstream set up right beside Lee’s tells you the story isn’t over. It just moved outside.

A word of advice: get the hot dogs. That sauce, paired with slaw, is where the magic is. The barbecue isn’t bad—it’s just not the point. For dessert, the cobblers (apple, peach, or blackberry) are homemade and excellent, especially with ice cream.

If you’re going for the full menu, it’s a solid 4.
If you’re going for the hot dogs, it’s a 5 every time.
