The restaurant is full with happy diners at 6.30pm on a Saturday. There’s a lovely atmosphere. The clients range from a baby in a high chair to an octogenarian in a sparkly cardigan eating out with her son.
We had a friendly welcome and were offered a choice of tables. The restaurant is small- maybe 36 covers, and every table has guests.
It specialises in fish and seafood. There are a small number of other options, but you really need to go with food from the sea here.
We shared a starter of tempura prawns with mayonnaise and a ginger soy sauce. The four large prawns came on a bed of salad which was freshly dressed and worked well with the crispy freshly cooked prawns.
We both ordered the special- pan fried halibut with a buerre blanc sauce, capers and oven roasted veg. We had a choice of chips or sauted potatoes.
The fish was expertly cooked- so moist and flavoursome. The sauce was excellent. The veg were carrot, parsnip and my favourite, beautifully cooked tenderstem broccoli.
The service is very attentive and nothing is a bother.
My only criticism is that the food came very quickly- we had finished our mains within a half hour of arriving.
However, we then took our time with our wine.
There’s a great buzz here, but some might find it a little loud- the walls are all hard surfaces and the tables are close together.

Had a lovely time today at Hemmingways. Second visit in a month since I first discovered the place and can’t wait to go again and again. I mean, the food is phenomenal, the host is near perfect, and the quiet atmosphere was great! Almost forgot to mention: the seafood medley you see in the photo was beyond great! Whatever magic goes into the sauce, keep doing it!

To be honest it was quite loud
there was a birthday party behind us and they were having a ball
There was a man beside me and he had to take out his hearing aids that made me laugh . Put that aside everything else was beautiful food ,staff and most of all the company I was with
I would recommend booking as it is a small restaurant
If u love seafood
I highly recommend this place as u will not be disappointed.

The waitress as amazing, she had to be serving 10 covers at least on her own, and still she was friendly and efficient at her job. Full credit to her! The food was delicious too. I had cheesecake as well! Very tasty!

A group of six of us went between Christmas and New Year and all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The owner managed a very busy restaurant despite being the only one serving due to illness of supporting staff. Admiral to watch excellent service with a smile. We will definitely return. Highly recommended due to gorgeous food and fantastic service.

This has to be one of the best dishes I have had in Dublin – Seafood Medley. I am obsessed with the sauce. You wouldn’t want to stop. It’s so good. This was my second time here and I am still amazed at how good it is.

I think I will recommend this treasure of a restaurant in Clontarf to everyone around me. They have the best service attitude and the most exquisite and delicious food. It’s by far my favourite restaurant in Ireland. I visit almost every month and Michelle is very welcoming and a great owner who is very approachable! I really enjoy the pasta and prawn dishes and recommend anyone coming to try them!

Food half decent but i have to be honest service horrendous worst ever experienced which ruined the dinner. Even getting the bill took 35 mins and 3 reminders similar with order and in end never came with cash machine. Loud , and place inside dated and needs serious upgrade and is very small with tables close rogether so be prepaed to hear everyones conversations

Atmosphere, service and food. We shared the appetizer, which was delicious, served with a dill sauce and a sweet chile sauce.
I had the special surf and turf which was an 8 oz sirloin(cooked to a perfect medium rare), presented on perfectly cooked parsnip, carrot and broccoli spears, mussels and shrimps, with a potato side.
Host and waitress treated us as old friends. Welcoming us and conversational through the whole meal, even though every table was full and place was packed.
Do not skip this most pleasant experience!
