Overall, eating at Hello Sunshine in Banff was a really cool experience. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and the food presentation feels pretty high-end. We tried a lot of different dishes including the scallops, spicy sashimi shrimp rolls, California rolls, Wagyu beef that you cook yourself on a hot rock, lobster rice, and teriyaki chicken.
The Wagyu beef on the hot rock was definitely one of the highlights. Cooking it yourself right at the table was fun and the beef tasted amazing. The scallops were also really good, and both the spicy sashimi shrimp rolls and California rolls were fresh and tasty. The teriyaki chicken was solid as well.
That said, the biggest issue here is the price. Everything is super overpriced, and it’s honestly pretty brutal on the wallet for what you get. The most disappointing dish by far was the lobster rice. The portion size was shockingly small, especially considering the price, and there was barely any lobster in it. On top of that, the flavor was pretty mid compared to the rest of the meal.

So overall: the food is fresh and many of the dishes taste great, and the experience (especially the Wagyu hot rock) is fun. But the value just isn’t there. You’re paying a lot for the vibe and location more than the actual portions. And DONT ORDER THE LOBSTER FRIED RICE.

We visited Hello Sunshine Sushi after a long day of skiing and were hoping for the 4-course omakase tasting ($59/person via OpenTable), but it wasn’t available. We went with regular rolls instead, and they did not disappoint: fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The ramen was good as well, though the tiny portions made it less of a value. The tart dessert was fantastic.

What really stood out was the ambience: the rustic cabin-style decor with modern touches created a quiet, cozy, and relaxing environment- perfect for unwinding after a ski day. Highly recommended for both food and atmosphere.

Great atmosphere and great ingredients but they can’t season their food for life. We came to Hello Sunshine twice last week (one for omakase and one for karaoke) – Almost every single dish needed salt… just disappointment for such a simple mistake yet it can ruin the flavours so much. The rib also needed to be braised more, I’ve never had such a tough rib that the knife they gave couldn’t cut through.

Very cool establishment in the heart of Banff with a cozy vibe, great fare and solid cocktails.

The service was incredible, knowledgeable and helpful, and the menu had a vast array of fresh Asian centric dishes that tickle the palate.

The interior and decorating offer a warm, comforting atmosphere that aligns with Banffs overall vibe and makes it a place you’ll like to visit time and time again with offerings that are unique to the Banff area.

10/10 would visit again!!

A great final dinner to cap off our time in Banff. The atmosphere is fun and the staff is friendly. I forgot to write a note down for her name, but special shout out to our awesome Kiwi/Aussie server who was serving across the restaurant and making drinks. She was great.

We ordered a lot of the menu. Highlights included the Chicken Karagge, A5 Wagyu (which they have a very good price on and the chef cooks perfectly), and the Maui Wowie rolls which were 50% off for happy hour ($6.70 USD for a set of 8 sizeable rolls is a steal in the US).

They have great Pork Bao buns here, and I tried bites of the Chicken Teriyaki and the Lobster Fried rice, both of which are stellar even though they weren’t my main.

If you’re coming here for value, slam a bunch of the half price Sushi for happy hour. If you want to try a bunch of stuff, just order a bunch of the amazing Apetizers. Everything we tried was great.

Shout to Maryann, her service was impeccable! We liked the happy hour sushi but thought it had a bit too much rice. We loved the chicken ramen and the shishito peppers! The views from the window are stunning.

Amazing tables and vibes. Friendly staff. The sushi was good while ramen was below expectations. The miso cake dessert was wonderful. Overall a nice place to eat at. They have a happy hour inclusive of food until 5:30 pm.

WOW! I always hope that my dining out experiences will be “worth it,” and this was a 10/10 experience, even during happy hour. From booking the reservation, being greeted & seated, served, and the food taste and quality… all amazing. The ambiance and decor is unique and fun, and the bathrooms are clean and inclusive (separate full stalls).

We ordered ramen, spicy tuna rolls and the winter tempura. It was incredible and my girlfriend and I will definitely return. Highly recommend!!

What a crazy cool unique place! We sat at the fireplace table which seats other couples, all around a huge, shared, round fireplace. We enjoyed being able to talk to the people next to us. The waiter was friendly and offered great food suggestions. We loved the unique flavors and atmosphere. The Beef Tataki was incredible!! Really a cool place to eat at, especially if you love Asian fusion.

we came to celebrate our anniversary. the bright side of this place is the service and the atmosphere/design. it’s very cozy and beautiful inside, and our waitress Rosie was extremely sweet and attentive.

we had to wait a bit longer for our food than other tables because our order was accidentally sent to another table, but it didn’t take too long. the sushi was good, not the best we’ve had, but it was okay. unfortunately, the ramen was a bit disappointing. the drinks were good.

overall, it’s a nice spot for happy hour, but i’m not sure i’d pay full price for the food quality.
