This place has the potential to be AMAZING. Amazing location, view, and vibe. The view of the lake is so relaxing!! Unfortunately they have entirely missed the mark. You walk into a desk that’s facing the wall, no one greeted or welcomed us in. Randomly seated by someone that seemed unsure. We had reservations for Valentine’s Day and were expecting a WOW experience. The waitress was amazing that we had, very knowledgeable about the menu and fast to what we needed. They were very attentive to my gluten intolerance (celiac) and bring me a GF menu but unfortunately that removed almost 75% of the menu. The appetizers were pretty good but the entrees we got were so low quality and felt like a drive thru meal. They do deceive you by naming things on their menu very high end “classy” names but nothing is high end about this place. It’s a low quality fish house on the lake with a great view but unfortunately the food isn’t even good. We left disappointed and spending $140+ on water, 2 appetizers, 2 sandwiches( 1 no bread due to GF). Not sure what demographic they are trying to cater to or what is happening. The menu and beautiful location is just poorly thought out.

Our review is based on a private event experience at Hello Sailor
We chose to host a welcome party for our wedding since we had about 50+ people traveling for our wedding and had never been to Lake Norman. Initially we had a wonderful experience booking. A few months out they did have some turnover which led to a few communication issues but Tammy the manager quickly resolved them and Elaise the events manager was relayed the correct information. When the day finally arrived, they did a FABULOUS JOB! They made menus, did a great job with the tables and decor. The food was amazing and perfect!!! I am so happy we chose to book with them and will recommend them for others wanting a similar experience. Their customer service and commitment to improving really won me over and made the event better than planned. We are so grateful – this was so perfect and we appreciate them dealing with our guests – they loved the party so much they didn’t want it to end and we had to keep reminding people to leave 100/10 for private events

The experience was different. You walk in and immediately feel like you might want to change your attitude towards the place. The entry was greeted as we were getting ready to be seated for a funeral. The staff just seemed to be willy nilly doing what needs to be done except making sure we were ready to order our food. Asked if we had a reservation as we did not but the entire inside had a very minimal customers seated which should have been a clue as to why are there not more people here at lunch? The food was good and had its own spin on items, no complaints. The overall feel was a little uncomfortable with very small tables especially for four people. Wish I could say we would return but it doesn’t look promising. Price point is too much for the food we received.

Our first time eating here. Great view of the lake when eating on the deck. We ordered the burgers minus buns. Very good! Came with fries but they were a little hard. Decent, but not great. Our daughter got the spicy chicken sandwich with fries. Her sandwich was good but her fries were hard as well. The fries were shoestring so maybe they were a little old or overcooked. Not sure. For dessert, they split the key lime cheesecake and they said it was delicious. Our server was very attentive and the food came out quick. Great atmosphere and price seemed fair for being a restaurant that’s lakeside.
9/13: went back with some friends and ordered the exact same thing (as did my wife). And not only was the burger delicious again, but everyone’s fries were too!!!! As a self proclaimed fry guy, they were spot on! Great food and atmosphere

We had Lunch at Hello, Sailor and we loved it here!
The location is beautiful, the food was delicious and we had very friendly servers.
Must try are the pickles and the watermelon. The cauliflower steak was yummy and the shrimp tacos as well!
Plenty of parking space and high chairs are available.
You can enjoy a meal at the lake here!

Hello Sailor is hands down the BEST restaurant on Lake Norman! We’ve been to all of them, and nothing comes close. The moment you step inside, you’re greeted with a super cool 70’s-inspired vibe—retro, fun, and laid-back in the best way. It’s stylish without trying too hard, making it the perfect spot for a lake day meal or a night out with friends.
The food is consistently fresh and delicious, with creative dishes that keep us coming back again and again. No surprise there, since the owners also run Kindred, the award-winning favorite in Davidson.
And seriously—ignore the reviews from people stuck in the past who can’t stop talking about the old Ruddy Duck or whatever it was called. Hello Sailor is its own thing, and it’s fantastic. Whether you’re sipping a cocktail by the water or enjoying a full dinner, this is the place to be on Lake Norman!

We really want to love this place because the setting is absolutely beautiful. Being right on the water makes it such a great spot, especially around sunset. The drinks are consistently great, and our waitress has always been wonderful. She’s attentive, friendly, and doing her best.
Unfortunately, the overall experience continues to fall short. Service from the broader team is consistently slow and disorganized. It often feels like there’s no clear coordination, which takes away from what should be a relaxing night out.
The food has also been disappointing on multiple visits. For a location like this, you expect quality to match the view, but the dishes have been underwhelming and not worth the price.
We’ll probably still come back occasionally for drinks because the waterfront atmosphere really is hard to beat. We just hope the management focuses on improving consistency in both service and food, because this place has so much potential.

I am not sure why this place has such a low rating! We had a dinner here yesterday and everything was amazing! It gives California vibes! Food was delicious, stag is friendly and the view is beautiful. We really enjoyed their appetizers. Everything came out so fast! The best French fries I ever had! The only comment I had: I wish the steak was seasoned better.

First time at Hello, Sailor and this place did not disappoint! Super cool place where the service is outstanding, the vibes are soooo Palm Springs they have a 40 oz Miller High Life so you know I HAD TO!! Yup had me a 40 on the lake today, cheers
The spicy chicken sandwich looked delicious every time they walked by with one and let me tell you, IT WAS!! We had shrimp and it smelled shrimpy which sounds bad but what I mean is that it’s not just boxed and Fried shrimp If that makes sense!!
Prices aren’t bad either, my 40 was $7, beers are $4, both of our meals were $18 a piece
And at the end they handed us our receipt on a postcard and said that they mail them out every Friday so I sent a postcard to my mom!
10/10 recommend!!

The dining experience was pleasant, with a delightful atmosphere and quality food. Nevertheless, the service fell short of expectations. We encountered a significant wait for our dishes, and it was frustrating to see that some patrons who arrived later were served ahead of us.
