First and foremost the queso is NOT real queso. It’s the stuff you buy in a grocery store in a can. The same powdered “cheese” that comes from a gas station or Taco Bell. This chips were slightly stale and weird with some sort of seasoning all over them. I’m not sure if this place doesn’t know the difference with real queso themselves …or they just think that their customers don’t know the difference, but either way don’t waste your money. (oddly enough, there was a picture of queso from a while ago in the reviews, and it didn’t look anything like the queso does now)

The burritos weren’t bad. They were a good size, but their taste was heavy as far as the flavor. A spritz of lime juice would’ve brightened all the ingredients up quite a bit, and not serving it with sour cream, but charging for extra sour cream ..wasn’t the way to go.

Also, eight dollars for a draft beer is insane! And of course, they’re one of those places that don’t let you look at the receipt before you pay. Always a red flag!

The service wasn’t that great- I asked for ice water and got cold water with two ice cubes that were melted 80%. lol the waitress seemed irritated.

None of these things by themselves would’ve been a dealbreaker, but when you add up all of the less than favorable aspects of this visit, I likely won’t go back, especially when there’s so many great restaurants right there in Davis that you could choose instead.

NOTE- I heard they just opened back up. Maybe it’s new owners who just aren’t getting it right because this place used to be really good from what I’ve heard, and even the pictures of the queso were very different before.

Seems the quality of the food and staff dropped significantly. The table next to us didn’t seem very happy with their food either and even when they asked for it to-go bag, the waitress seemed as though it was a hassle.

Love this place. I was there for the first time (since reopening) after a long day at Whitegrass and just soaked it all in. With the reopening, they’ve sought to maintain the same vibe and it works. Such a welcoming place and the burritos are the same great Hellbenders burritos. Beer selection is solid and I like the new table service. The whole team deserves kudos for keeping the Hellbenders spirit alive! Look forward to the menu continuing to expand (to include their great tacos).

Holy moly. The queso fundido! So glad this gem is back. New owners have kept the same great vibe and food, and added to it. It’s busy, but that’s what happens when you’ve got great food.

This is a must stop place if in town. Burritos are great in size and flavor! I had the Admiral burrito and it was everything I expected after being directed here by many locals.

Friday night was busy and after placing my order it would be a 30 minute wait, but I just walked around and checked out the area and came back. Unless you are dining in, might save you time to call and order ahead of time on the weekends, but don’t miss out on this place!

So stoked to have Hellbenders back! They’ve been super busy since reopening and handling it well. The service is fast & friendly, the burritos are as delicious and large as ever, the queso is addictively delicious, and the beer selection is wonderful.

This is a must visit place if you like fresh scratch made food in good quantities. The burritos are huge and better bring an appetite. Cool fun decor and atmosphere. Great selection of microbrews and other unique non-alcoholic drink selections.

you can’t get to go at all when they are busy. they also unplug or hangup the phone when called. when we entered we were greeted with an unhappy server that told us no to everything. i am overall disappointed considering this used to be mine and my husbands favorite place.

This was my first stop after hiking Dolly Sods and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. This place wasn’t very big but packed lots of character. I got a chicken, bacon, and ranch burrito that definitely hit the spot after a long hike. The burritos are MASSIVE and quality ingredients. This place is a must stop in Davis, WV.

Great place with nice selection of ‘make your own’ and house specials. Beer avaliable, too! Not many tables -only 5- so it gets crowded but if you are patient you will find a seat. Fun decor, very cool staff, reasonable prices. Quality ingredients from how everything tasted, wish I had room in my belly to try more things. One star off because the one burrito we got was dripping in soy sauce, way too salty. I know that soy sauce was used as the marinade but it was overkill. Need to dial that back. Otherwise I definitely recommend this spot and do hope to visit again!
