We started with the Napa cabbage salad, a bright, crunchy composition that felt both fresh and composed, followed by warm bread and salted butter, setting the tone for what came next. By then, expectations were heightened.
For mains, we shared the bacon and onion tart, cod, and the gnocchi. The tart blew us away; the pastry was baked to perfection and let’s just say the bacon portion was highly generous. The cod was cooked with restraint and confidence: moist, deeply flavorful, and finished with crisp skin that provided just enough contrast. The gnocchi, pan-fried and accented with truffle, were rich without being heavy and nearly melted on the palate.
We ended with a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie that may well be one of the best in the city. While we don’t drink, the wine program, more than 300 bottles deep, is renowned and reason enough on its own to visit. Add genuinely warm, thoughtful hospitality from Josh and his staff, and this is the kind of place you return to without needing an excuse.
Amy was exceptional — a true professional, warm and welcoming, and she made us feel right at home.
We enjoyed the gnocchi, the green salad, the black cod, and the soup of the day, and every dish was wonderful.
The wine list is also excellent. We will definitely be back!
Service: 10/10 we arrived early and were seated right away. The host was friendly and greeted us genuinely. Our server brought water, olives and almonds and extra olives for my wife with almond allergies so she can try the yummy olives. Amazing detail to my parties food allergies and checked to make sure the food was safe and had alternatives to accommodate.
Food: 10/10 the food was delicious. French influenced California cuisine. Fresh high quality ingredients. Sauces that enhanced the flavors and a balance of umami in all dishes. It was great that one person can have the prefix menu and others at the table can order al a cart. You can also order just one dish from prefix menu. The duck was perfect, the 3 cheeses with toast paired perfectly with the Bordeaux. The smoked trout was very well seasoned and balanced nicely with the pickled cauliflower. The hanger steak was super tender and flavorful with no dairy!!!
Wine paring is excellent. The selection of French wines is reasonable and great for food pairing.
I think the josey baker sourdough beats tartine country bread! The warm
Chocolate cookie with ice cream was delicious, the polenta cake with cream and rhubarb was shockingly good!
Ambience: 8/10 I love the simple open decor. Bar, dining and kitchen blend together. It wasn’t too noisy because the ceiling pads dampened it.
Price: $$ (great value)
Overall, an amazing neighborhood up leveled cuisine in a casual setting. We will be back with friends!
This is a total gem in the Mission. I had walked by on so many occasions wondering what the cute candle lit restaurant was. Last night I finally got the chance to go!
Staff could not have been warmer, more welcoming, or more accommodating.
Food was delicious, especially the mussels, gnoochi, and steak.
The space is super cute. The aesthetic feels like a mix between “dark, french bistro and American farm house. Great date vibes.
