Great authentic German food. The atmosphere takes you away from the city for a bit. Feels like an old world pub / restaurant with great wall art and wooden planks throughout. Definitely recommend!

Very good service and the food came out much quicker than in the past. I always get the pork shank and it did not disappoint. We had a party of eight and everybody enjoyed their dishes and the beer was delicious.

Incredible Oktoberfest Experience at Heidelberg

I visited Heidelberg to celebrate Oktoberfest, and it was fantastic! The seasonal beer was amazing—crisp, flavorful, and perfectly refreshing. The mashed potatoes and cucumber salad were delicious, and the pretzel was the real star—soft, perfectly baked, and the best I’ve had in a long time.

Even as a vegetarian, there are plenty of great options, and everything I tried was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. The cozy, welcoming atmosphere makes it a perfect spot for weekend outings, friends and family gatherings, or birthday celebrations. I highly recommend Heidelberg—it’s a must-visit for anyone looking for an authentic German dining experience!

True German restaurant. We’ve been here with German friend and enjoyed our visit. Traditional food and great choices of tap and bottled beer! Prices for the food a little bit higher then average in NYC

I’d never been to a German restaurant before, so I decided to give Heidelberg a try. We went for Saturday lunch, and overall, the experience was enjoyable.

We started with the potato pancakes, which we really liked. They were served with both applesauce and sour cream — my first time trying that combination. The applesauce was an interesting (and surprisingly tasty) pairing.

For my main dish, I ordered the Sauerbraten. The sauce it came with was described as sweet and sour, but I found it mostly sweet — which worked well for me. The beef was a little on the dry side, though I’m not sure if that’s typical for the dish. It came with a potato dumpling that was more like a scoop of mashed potatoes, and a side of red cabbage that had a pleasantly sweet flavor — not what I expected, but I really enjoyed it.

The wifey ordered the Wiener Schnitzel and absolutely loved it. It came with a small serving of lingonberries, home fries, and the same red cabbage that I had.

Overall, we both enjoyed our meal and would definitely come back to try other dishes on the menu.

This place is like stepping into Germany/ Alsace.
First thing I noticed was the smell which brought me to another place.
Recommend the sausage platter with 3 different sausages, red cabbage, sauerkraut and german potato salad. Single platter can def serve 2 unless you are starved. Mustards complemented them perfectly. Pretzel delivered and spatzle is amazing.

This is the best authentic German restaurant I could ask for! The pork shank was perfectly done: tender on the inside with a deliciously crispy outside. It’s a huge portion, easily sharable between 2–3 people. The potato pancakes were out of this world. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and full of rich potato flavor. Highly recommend!

Cozy German Spot with Great Food, Since 1936. Charming old-school German restaurant with a rustic lodge vibe and staff in traditional attire. The German sausages with regular mustard and sweet mustard, potato salad, two types of sauerkraut, and Jägerschnitzel with Spätzle were all excellent. Great German beer selection too. Only downsides: weak AC on a hot day and the water glasses had a slight eggy smell. Otherwise, a solid experience overall.

Nice Xmas decorations. Never noticed deer head windowsill bar.
Usual Spaten lager and Pauliner draft.
Only ordered pork shank. Then sides of home fries.
More than adequate. Hit the spot.
Danke schon

Revisit. Craving for shank and sausage. Can’t go wrong.
One minor issue with billing. Never checked whether tip included but perhaps should.
Otherwise, old faithful. Great stalwart restaurant.

Tried fondue. Nice but favorite still sausages and shank. Sunday brunch farmer’s breakfast ok too. Mimosa & Prosecco for $10.

Shank great. All delicious including potato salad, sauerkraut, cabbage, sausages, mustard. Portion also generous.
Duck also fantastic

Beer selection great too. Liked spaten lager and erdinger.

Very accommodative service at the bar.

Walk-in only, no reservation.

Slightly loud vibe fitting for bar with college town namesake.

Worth a trip out to upper far east. Shall return.

Ambiance (5/5): The décor has classic German themes throughout the restaurant. Liters and pints of German beers to try! We sat outside, where there were several outdoor dining tables with some fencing to provide some boundary between the street.
Service (5/5): Danny, our server, gave us the best recommendations (and some customization). Strangely, our waters came after the meal but we were helped timely with our drink and food orders!
Potato Pancakes (4/5): I loved how the pancakes were seasoned with the onion and garlic tones. I wished they were slightly thicker to get more of a crunch. It needed a little more salt but otherwise served with the apple sauce was my preferred option!
Gebratene Ente (Duck) (5/5): This was absolutely divineeee! The duck was cooked to fall off the bone, so tender and packed with flavor. I wished there was more of the gravy that it was cooked in so I could dip everything in it. This is a must have.
Wiener Schnizel (5/5): Per Danny’s recc, we added a side of the Jagerschnitzel gravy and subbed the potatoes with spatzle. Wow, the gravy really gives the bite some extra flavor. The breaded veal was amazing—perfect crunch, nicely flavored, and still delicious reheated. The portions were generous! The spatzle is a soft and buttery side that goes well with the whole dish.
Everything was great and can’t wait to come back!
