The food here was absolutely amazing. Everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you hope for in a great dim sum experience. Once the meal got going, the service was friendly and attentive, and the overall atmosphere was lively and enjoyable.
That said, the start of the meal was a bit slow. It took longer than expected for someone to come take our initial order for tea and soup, and we were waiting for a while before things really got moving.
The main issue we experienced was at the very end. We left what we felt was a fair $20 tip, but the staff member handling the bill told us it was “too low” and insisted we needed to leave at least $30. We ended up increasing it to $25, and even then she seemed unhappy. That felt uncomfortable and unnecessary.
We’ve traveled to China many times, where tipping isn’t part of the culture, and we believe tipping should be based on the service provided, not pressured or demanded. The food and experience were great, but the way the tip situation was handled left a negative impression at the end of an otherwise excellent meal.
Overall, we’d still recommend the restaurant for the quality of the food, but we hope management addresses how gratuities are communicated to customers.

Cantonese-mom approved dim sum, we always love to come here and order our favorite dumplings. The portions are decent and there’s a large selection to choose from. And you can’t skip the bubble tea it’s always delicious after a meal. I highly recommend a visit!

Ok so I grew up in San Francisco so my standards for dim sum are a bit unrealistic. As a vegetarian, I’m looking for variety but usually dim sum is not the ideal cuisine for plant-based dining. Irony is just as we were leaving they had a vegetable dish come around. Service was good and the dining area was roomy. The dim sum was good for my wife who ate the standards but my main option was eggplant which was a little rubbery and the service was so good that they kept removing dishes which had the sauce on them before I was done with the dish. The chow foon (east coast) / fun (west coast) was pretty good. Tofu had fish cakes.

Many delicious items such as fried dumplings, egg cake, rice noodles with beef, and bao buns. The servers were friendly and the price was reasonable for how many things we ordered, 90 bucks for 3 people

Hong Konger here, came here with a friend for the first time with some expectations and thought it was pretty great for the price!
They roll out the trolley which is something we don’t really get anymore back home and i thought that was pretty cool!
Dim sum portions are pretty generous. Would come back next time!
even though the 阿婆s that work there seem to be in a bit of a rush, but hey, it’s part of the experience

What a beast of a place ! If you enjoy quick high quality service and love to eat dim sum come try it out. The ordering process is extremely simple and once they take your sheet the food will start rolling in! There are many places to try as well but I also enjoyed the entrees here. We had the beef fried rice and beef chow foon. Wow just great will definitely bring my friends here sometime in the near future~~!

Awesome experience! The staff were extremely friendly and the food was delicious. The only reason for four stars is that we had absolutely no idea how much we were spending on our meal, haha. Would have been helpful to know how the pricing worked as we decided on things off the cart. Will definitely come back again and with a larger crew to enable trying more dishes.

Love this restaurant! Always stop by when we’re going to Central Park. Probably the best Chinese spot in the Boston area. Such a fun experience picking your meal from the dim sum carts

Hei La Moon, located in Boston’s Chinatown, is recognized for its traditional pushcart-style dim sum service and an extensive menu featuring dumplings, buns, and a variety of Chinese dishes. However, despite its setting in the heart of Chinatown, the food fell short of delivering the authentic flavors one would expect, resulting in a rather disappointing dining experience.
