So here, my fellow travelers in these strange times is a true mystery! How is it that one of the best, most magical burger places in the currently known universe has been open for 2 years and only has, 9 reviews?
And it’s right in the middle of hipville! You would think there would be a line around the block!
It’s true, the sign is not easy to see, I was unsure if I had found the place or not, but the hostess was gracious and kind and the selection of burgers was delectable!
I chose a lamb burger with tzatziki sauce and red roasted peppers and it was like nothing I have ever had in my life! Tender and juicy, tangy and savory. Instead of coming with fries, it came with home fries. A completely different experience than anything I’ve ever had.
It’s true they had international soccer playing on big screens and I could care less, but it did not detract from the amazing food and the kind service. It’s quaint, it feels homey. The bathroom is clean. The owner is from Greece and the hostess from Columbia, and it feels the place has brought flavors of the world in the least pretentious way of any restaurant I’ve been to in years.
My yard sale hunting often takes me to north Portland. Some of the best stuff and more importantly the best people are to be found there. It is an eclectic area with interesting people and interesting stories and the yard sale hunting is better there because of the sense of community.
To find a place like Hefe Burger right there is just like finishing off the perfect meal with exactly the right paired wine.
Interesting fun people, finding treasure… and then going to a friendly place for interesting good, evocative food!

Got the Truffle Chicken Sandwich and the Lamb burger. It was delicious. The lamb burger was juicy and delicate. The bun was soft and the flavors were great together. The Chicken Sandwich was HUGE, it was also really juicy and had good flavor. The only thing was that it was confusing if we were in the right place or not. There is a little signage but none on the inside, there were multiple different menus on the counter. I think it’s multiple restaurants out of the one kitchen which is fine but confusing if you’d never been there before.

Highly recommend. My partner had the Hefe Burger and I had the lamb burger. It was amazing. She said that the Hefe burger was the best burger she’s ever had. I’m back again the next night getting another Hefe for her and the truffle chicken for me. You should go there.

My son and I got stuck in Portland due to a cancelled appointment and decided to see what was in the area.
Burgerville was nearby but this place had five stars so we decided to check it out, might as well eat in a sit down restaurant if paying sit down restaurant prices. I’m not a foodie at all but the jefe cheeseburger was the best burger I’ve had in a very long time.
