Heavys BBQ in Crawfordville GA Review and Experience – Facebook

45 minutes from Augusta. Meats are smoked on site. There are more displays than I could take pictures of. The ribs and BBQ are on point, generous portions.

Where do I start? Service was average. Don’t go in there asking questions. The lady doesn’t like answering them.

The place is full of stuff. Some of it was neat seeing because of the age of it. The rest? Dirty.

The food… I got the pork plate with fries and brunswick stew. The meat was kind of edible. I have had some worse. The stew was mush, but it was a little edible. I was starving. The fries were good and hot. DO NOT use the sauce and ketchup. Nasty containers! It looked like they had never been washed. Bread is on the tables. They literally put a loaf of bread on each table for you to reach in the bag and take out to eat. I ain’t into communal food like that! That’s just SO unsanitary!!! You don’t know if folks are washing their hands on a good day and you come into a place like this, and there’s communal bread for you to partake. I DID NOT partake of the bread!

They have bottle sodas. On the plus side of that was they had Cheerwine! I love that stuff!! It was very cold and refreshing. I think that’s the only good thing I can say about the place.

There was a movie filmed here but it was back in the day so the place had to have been in better shape than it is now.

We won’t be going back.

What a treat!
Grab and go deliciousness.
We stumbled on this place because we were visiting the nearby park and smelled it’s alluring smoke on the way in.
We backtracked and felt lucky to be in the area on one of the days they are open.
We got two classic pork barbecue sandwiches with extra sauce because we enjoyed the twangy flavor so much.
Our food was ready in a flash, but it also has a dime in area for those who have time to relax and enjoy a BBQ plate.
As far as our food went, the buns were pillowy soft, while the meat was flavorful, without being overly fatty.
Can’t wait to get back to try more stuff AND get more sandwiches.
I would definitely recommend stopping by if you find yourself near Heavy’s

Today we embarked on a heartwarming journey down memory lane in celebration of our beloved Brother Dad and Paw-Paw, Butch Crane, to a place that held a special spot in his heart, the world famous Heavy’s BBQ in Crawfordville Ga, which he cherished during his visits to our hunting club in Taliaferro County. We also took a trip to the old hunting club and discovered one of Butch’s vintage stands, reviving memories from a bygone era. This trip was a beautiful reminder of the incredible times we shared. We miss you dearly, Brother. ❤️❤️❤️

Tried the bbq pork plate. Was ok tasting, but sauce wasn’t very good to me. Table ketchup bottles were terrible tasting and I think they use it in the sauce. The amount of items they have inside and outside are worth seeing to try out the food. My granddaughter fried chicken filet sandwich had a patty about the size of sausage patty. Don’t ask too many questions when ordering either. Bread is community shared from the loaf bag so beware of who share with.

Friendly staff, delicious food, fun atmosphere with lots of interesting decorations to look at. We had fun walking the grounds of where scenes of Sweet Home Alabama took place!

I know this is a popular place with the locals. Driving by it looks like a junk yard. Walking into the counter, the atmosphere is dark and dingy. Staff was very friendly! We ordered Rib Plates ($12.95) which came with Brunswick Stew and coleslaw. I prefer to eat my ribs off the bone. These plates were served with a pile of rib meat with bones. The Brunswick Stew was more like a puree. The dining room had wood tables (each with a commercial loaf of bread in a bag that previous diners have reached into) and benches with a fireplace on the back wall. Next time we are in the area, we will skip Heavy’s.

I rarely give 5*’s, this one hits on all eight cylinders!
Lydia was just a gem, sweet gracious and welcoming. I told her I’d give it a bad review so nobody would common overpopulate the place and I wouldn’t be able to get a seat. But a lot of family effort goes into producing quality barbecue they get an A+.
BBQ plate . Brunswick stew with the proper taste, and a special relish infused coleslaw to die for.
We live on the other side of the river but will make the 80 min drive from now on every so often.

This is basically a museum with great BBQ to boot. This is one of the best BBQ places in Georgia. The service was awesome, service with great conversation with the staff. If you are in the area this a must go eat opportunity. You won’t regret it.

Not too far off the main highway. Definitely an old school BBQ place. The ribs were a little overdone. They were dropped on the plate as a mixture of meat and bone. They tasted ok, but definitely more of a stew. The slaw was full of pickles; strange to me but pretty good. The Brunswick Stew was, well… stew. Good tea. They put a whole pitcher on the table along with an entire loaf of white bread. Pie for dessert. Didn’t seem home made, but was ok just the same. The folks were nice and would probably return, but will continue my search for the best BBQ.
