From the moment you step inside, the warm ambiance and friendly staff make you feel right at home.
The star of the show, of course, is the pho. I ordered the traditional Pho Bo (beef pho), and it did not disappoint. The broth was rich and aromatic, simmered to perfection with a blend of spices that danced on my palate. Each slurp of noodles was perfectly chewy, complementing the tender slices of beef that were cooked just right.
What truly sets Heavenly Pho apart is the freshness of the ingredients. The herbs, lime, and bean sprouts served alongside the dish were crisp and vibrant, allowing for a customized experience that enhances the already delicious pho.The menu also offers a variety of other Vietnamese dishes, but the pho remains the highlight.
The service was prompt and attentive, ensuring that my dining experience was smooth and enjoyable. For anyone looking to indulge in a hearty bowl of pho, this place is a must-visit. It’s a delightful escape into the flavors of Vietnam, and I can’t wait to return to try more of their selection.
I ordered the shrimp and pork spring rolls. If you like things basic and dry with no flavor but filling, this is a decent choice.
For my main dish, I ordered the chicken, shrimp, and egg roll vermicelli, which was basic on flavor and minimal on veggies. The shrimp was cold, and the egg roll seemed to have been deep-fried a few times.
Furthermore, order some crab ragu; to no surprise, it didn’t have any crab in it.
While our waiter took our drink orders, we browsed the menu and I decided to dine on the Vermicelli Chicken bowl that included an eggroll and shrimp, while my boyfriend selected the Pho special and an order of Crispy Calamari. Our waiter came out often to check on us and even warmed my noodles at my request for my Vermicelli bowl.
While I understand we are dealing with inflation, I wasn’t pleased to count 5 pieces of chicken and see 2 pieces of shrimp heaped on a bowl of noodles and bean sprouts. After viewing other restaurants and seeing what was in placed in front of me, I started to doubt our choice to dine here. I for one love eating at home and my boyfriend loves eating out, but if you are going to raise prices to around $14 a bowl, 1/3 cup of meat should at least be the standard to serve to your guest. I also wasn’t pleased with the poorly cleaned shrimp with the dirt line that glowed on the plate in front of me. I felt a bit slighted as he dined on his Pho so I ended up tasting his selection, which was seasoned to perfection. He also ordered a Banh Mi to go and we paid our tab.
For nearly $64 with a tip, I do believe I could have found a meal that I felt was worth the trip and cost elsewhere. When I eat out, I like to find restaurants that have ingredients that I normally don’t cook with so that I feel like it was worth the trip, labor and cost. My meal, I feel I definitely could have prepared off of a YouTube tutorial and enjoyed more at home. I felt like they tried to disguise the protein under the vegetables to make you think you were getting more than you were (sigh).
I will continue looking around San Antonio for other selections.
For the meals, we ordered Pho, Vermicelli Bowl, Rice Plate, and Fried Rice. I’ve had these before and still can’t say which is my favorite. They use some of the same ingredients, so it’s really what you’re in the mood for. The meat is always so tender and juicy in all the dishes. Food came out within 15 minutes, but they wait staff seemed short-handed. Service was great, but she was the only waitress working the 5 occupied tables.
As always, food was consistently good, plated well, and generous portions. Ingredients are always fresh and go well together. This remains one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants after all these years.
