A young lady took my order. I got the 3 ribs and asked her if I they have any big fatty ones like in their menu pictures/online reviews because that’s what I’m after. She said yes so I got excited. She recommended the mac and cheese so I ordered that as well. I told her I wanted to try their smoked peach cobbler with ice cream at the end of my meal and asked if it was heated to which she said yes and that she would put it in after I was almost done eating.
The food came out super fast, about 3 minutes. She sat it down and quickly left. I stared at it then looked at the menu again because the 3 ribs on my plate were the smallest ribs I have ever been served with each rib being about 3 inches long; It looked very much like a child’s plate but I didn’t order from the kid’s menu.
Since she left so fast and didn’t look like she was coming back out any time soon, I went up and asked if all of their ribs are that tiny. The older woman (the owner maybe?) came out and told me the rack sizes vary so much that when they serve small ones like that, they will usually give more than 3. To make it right she will bring more out. I appreciated that gesture. She brought 3 normal sized ribs out and let me keep the little ones.
I had hoped I wasn’t inconveniencing them too much more but I asked for pickles and onions and later a refill of my tea. I never saw the younger girl at my table again until she dropped my ticket off and she left quickly again. She didn’t ask if I was ready for the cobbler I told her I wanted and the ticket felt final, so I grabbed a small to-go box, stacked my plates and clutter and went up to pay.
The young girl was up there and I mentioned the peach cobbler but I said I didn’t need it. I think she misunderstood me and asked if I still wanted ice cream. I tried to tell her no I don’t want it any more; I’m already finished and ready to go. The exchange of words here made me feel like I frustrated her for even mentioning the cobbler because she tried to ring me up for it several times. The older woman told me they had plenty they could send me with but I was heading to an event and couldn’t take it.
All this to say I appreciate them trying to make up for the small ribs. They weren’t bad. If you told me they were baked, I’d believe you.
I haven’t been to a southern BBQ place that didn’t serve or offer pickles and onions but thank you for obliging, even if they were sweet. Thank you for the 1 refill upon request.
I was a server for 7 years, it goes a long way asking if there is anything else you need before you drop their ticket off, goes even further if you suggest dessert, let alone get them the dessert they already ordered.
Mac and cheese was tasty!
