Love this place! I’ve been a few times and the staff is anyways friendly and attentive. The jerked chicken kabobs never disappoint, great burgers and their “magic sauce” pizza is my new favorite. They always have new beers to try that the owner Mark brews right on site. The bar is separated from the regular seating so it’s a great atmosphere to just stop in for a drink and hang out, doesn’t get rowdy like a lot of bars. And they also have live music some nights. Highly recommended. If you haven’t been yet you def have to try it out!

Upon arrival I was pleased with the appearance of the building. The hostess told us that since we didn’t have a reservation there would be a 20-30 minute wait time. We waited at the bar area (which is super tiny and uncomfortable) for about 45 minutes, all the while staring at at least 20 unoccupied seats.

The Beer.
HearthStone is a “Small Batch Brewery” as well as a restaurant, which was one of the main reasons we came here in the first place. My brother and my wife and I are huge beer fans and love trying all types of craft brews. They have no description of any of their beers on any menu or board. The owner described them all for me, 3 of the 4 were reds/ambers – how about some variety? I tried 2 of the 4 house-made beers, and they were really not good. The Smokin’ Blonde was overpowering and tasted like drinking out of an ash tray. (Not my first smoked beer either, I’ve had plenty that I’ve enjoyed). The “guest breweries” were Weyerbacher and NJ Beer Co. both of which had some very nice bottle and draught options.

Appetizers.
Fried Mozzarella bites were pretty good, the “gravy” tomato sauce was very good. The wings came out stone cold, as if they had been prepared hours before and microwaved before being served. Soft skin, and literally not even a little warm. We sent them back, and the owner came out to apologize and offered to re-fire them on the house. But he took no accountability, and blamed the waitress for our cold wings, saying she took too long to serve them. Who throws their employee under the bus like that? After waiting another 15+ minutes for the new wings, we knew our entrees would be ruined… I will say that the second attempt at the wings was successful, they were pretty good.

Entrees.
4 burgers, 1 grilled salmon. The burgers all were ordered medium, came out as hockey pucks. We didn’t bother sending them back this time, as we had already been there for an eternity. Oh and by the time these entrees came out, the empty tables we had been staring at for two hours were finally filled, apparently if there’s a reservation they just hold the table all night…

Dessert.
At this point, we decided not to order dessert. But our waitress heard us say that it was my wife’s birthday, so she offered a free cupcake which we all shared. It was pretty good. How can you complain about a free cupcake?

Service/Management.
As soon as we were sat, 2 different employees brought us 8 1/2 glasses of water. There were 5 of us. 8 1/2 glass of water. It took us finally asking them to clear the table for them to remove some of the unused (or half full) water glasses. What a mess.
Our waitress was polite, but was clearly exhausted, and likely sick of hearing complaints all night. At least 2 items that we tried to order were not available (cheese dip and asparagus).

Short Version.
We were surprised to find they have been open for 8 months already… it felt like this was Day #1. Cold wings, bad beer, empty seats with a long wait, completely ruined burgers, inept management. It’s clear to me the standards at this restaurant are very low. This was without a doubt, the worst overall dining experience I’ve had in a long time. I can safely say we will never come back.

We went there tonight and had a great meal. My wife had the pork chops, I the T-bone steak the wood fired flavor was awesome. I tried their home made beers and found it taste like more. So we will be returning soon.

The 2 stars are for the very friendly staff and nice atmosphere. However, I am sorry to say the food was terrible. First, the new menu was very limited but interesting. The free starter appetizer was not edible. Could not figure out what the plate of large shiny burnt items were. Found out they were pretzel bites that were burned on the outside, uncooked on the inside. Server gave us another batch which was also not edible but the dipping sauce was delicious. We ordered pizza, jerk chicken kabobs and a small romaine lettuce side salad. Chicken kabobs were oddly served with one kabob per plate. Tasted small piece which was delicious but not edible as the chicken was raw. Took long time to receive the replacement kabobs. The pizza, although thin crusted, was doughy and sported an odd flavor. Our guess was that the brick oven may not have been at the right temperature so everything was coming out uncooked. Also, whatever wood they were burning did not work well for pizza. Menu gave choice of three different lettuces for the same price. Asked for romaine but received iceberg for my side salad. Server swapped my salad for correct version, which took a long time, but charged me for a full salad saying romaine lettuce was more expensive (but menu did not say this). In the end, the owner chatted with us and took salad off the bill. Gave a nice tip to server as she was very nice and accommodating.

If you have 2 hours for lunch and you are not hungry this may be a place for you.
Nice decorum, but 45min wait for 2 sandwiches at lunch time!!! They had only 2 or 3 tables occupied when we walked in. Order was taken quickly by apparently the manager or the owner of the place.
He brought in the ice tea we ordered and was gone. About 5-10 minutes later the waitress whom we saw for the first time brought pretzel bites – something they offer as a free snack while you wait.
For 2 of us she brought in 5 pieces… Really.. The manager/owner and the waitress spent most of the time somewhere in the back, bringing out one plate at a time. About 30 minutes later the food finally showed up. I ordered Grilled Mahi Mahi sandwich for 9.95. It came in on a simple lightly toasted bun, no sauce of any kind and the tiniest piece of fish i have seen. One piece of cold tomato, one piece of tiny cold lettuce and something that was suppose to be a ” sweet New England style tartar sauce on the side “. Saggy pile of fries completed this disaster of a meal.
You can get a better quality sandwich at Long John Silver.
I am usually not writing reviews, but this place really ticked me of.. Take my word or check it yourself if you got nothing better to do

Tried their food at Monroe Octoberfest for the first time and went today. Our table of 7 had pierrogies, seared tuna sandwich, bbq chicken sandwich, jerk chicken sandwich, and a pizza from the brick over. All fantastic. Service could be a little quicker but they will get that down in time. The food was excellent and worth the extra 10 minutes or so

Food ok if you get it TERRIBLE service but no fault of the front staff, owner chef has no clue and cannot handle volume and on top of it is a loose cannon. As another poster stated stay away at peak times it took us two hours for apps and burgers. Owner was no where to be seen during this bizarre visit which is part of the problem no front manager to handle problems just a bunch of well meaning young staff with no management over seeing them. The poor staff took a beating this night because the owner/chef has not figured out in 7 months of business how to work out the peak demand hours it appears, i can tell you this much your not going to do it by yourself as it appears you want to. Asked for 2 orders of wings and the shrimp and sausage apps, Wings come out good stuff but no Shrimp? asked stated its on the way, well were done with the wings still no shrimp, about 15 min goes by and here comes the shrimp! (good again but small and not worth the $) Spent $150.00 for 4 people on apps, burgers and booze most of it on booze waiting for table and food to arrive, when dinner sandwiches finally arrive one is missing, told repeatably it will be right out….. well the 3 of us are done with our meals and the 4th guy is STILL waiting and when it arrives it is WRONG! Long story short all we were looking for was to have the late wrong meal removed from the bill, well that did not happen, asked for the owner and was told if you want to speak to him you have to go see him in the kitchen? So off to the kitchen to plead our case, owner yells at me “what do you want from me? I am doing the best i can here, i have sent at least 6 messages out to you (no clue what they may have been) If you don’t like it don’t come back! That is the response from the owner WTF? Hey we all have bad days but ….. seems like a pattern here that is not getting fixed,,,, I really don’t think he needed to tell me not to come back no worries there. We were not the only table having issues that night all of them were and the place really is not that big, and by the way whose brilliant idea was it to put a table of 6 smack in front of the bar so anyone wanting a drink literally had to push a person sitting at the table in to get at the bar for a drink, they were also not a happy table i can tell you that! So the staff knows we explained we were not paying for the sandwich and left a 15% tip regardless because it was not the front staff fault here but i am sure the owner did not pass the 15% along to the staff and kept the sandwich on the bill and $ in his pocket. I have been going out to dinner for 30 years, had plenty of so so dinners but only 2 terrible dinners and this was one of them, it was such a simple solution, sorry it did not work out we had a bad night we will take the sandwich off and next time you come back see me and i will make sure your taken care of but no the response is DON’T COME BACK! again no worries there. For those of you who decide to go to this place i would suggest you not even attempt it if you see more that 3 cars in the parking lot! Good Luck

Mark the owner is one of the nicest guys around. Not to mention the food is great. Anything that is cooked over the wood is amazing. Especially the wings. The beer is also excellent for craft beer lovers.
