You know a place has great soup, when they run out by dinnertime. It is such a treat to grab a sandwich and soup when I’m in town at Head West. The employees are always helpful and turnaround time on an order is fast. I love the decor in the dining room area. The inside looked cleaned and there was plenty of sitting so if we weren’t on a time crunch, we would have been comfortable eating in. Order the sweet bread on your next sandwich order and you will be hooked for life. You won’t even glance at another sub shop because it won’t come close to compare.

It was around 7 pm on Sept. 18,2025, I ordered a sandwich with roast beef on it and was told that they were out of roast beef. I then ordered a chef salad and was told that they were out of lettuce! I just said forget it and left. Maybe they should post a menu which includes what they do have so customers aren’t repeatedly corrected and told no when ordering!

I ordered large soup. I received potato soup that was not even hot and wasn’t what I ordered. I hate your potato soup. I also ordered rueban. Rye bread was stale. I didn’t even receive crackers for the soup. Do not substitute something else and charge me full price for something I didn’t want!!!!!

Bought my food and they couldn’t make it. Had to leave with it on my card and no food and no receipt. Don’t pay till you get your food. My advice if you want to chance it.

Stopped here on the road heading West on 72, as Jacksonville was the last bastion of civilization for the foreseeable future. Was delighted to discover this deadhead gem just a hop and a skip from the highway. Got the BLT and was exceedingly satisfied. Definitely the spot to stop if you want a quality sandwich. Grateful for the sub and will definitely make a pitstop here every time I’m on I-72!
