We dined here tonight and unfortunately the experience was very disappointing.

The restaurant was busy, so when we were seated at a high-top table near the entrance, we were understanding and assumed better tables were reserved. That part was not the issue.

The real problem was the service. We were told bread would be served, but two tables that arrived after us received bread twice before we ever got ours. We had to ask for it, and it was eventually brought after we had already finished our main courses, which defeats the purpose of serving bread as a starter.

From the time our salads were served, we waited approximately 20–30 minutes for our main dishes. During the entire meal, no one checked on us — no “Is everything okay?”, no follow-up at all. After our mains, we were left sitting with empty plates and no service.

There was no apology, only repeated explanations that the bread was “still baking.” For a restaurant at this price point ($60-70 per person, no drinks), this level of service is unacceptable.

We left feeling ignored rather than welcomed. This was our first time experiencing such treatment in the U.S., and it was deeply disappointing.

Had reservations for 5:00 on an October Saturday. Although we had a reservation, and the place was not yet full, our seating options were limited and we chose the patio behind the building. We ordered the trout, the pork chop, and a seared tuna bruschetta starter. The tuna came after a reasonable wait but had not been seared. When we asked to have it seared, we were told it was not an option. One of us has sensitivities to uncooked meat/fish, so we had to send it back. The pork chop and trout were prepared nicely, but the wait time seemed excassive (about an hour),although the staff were very courteous.

Can’t say enough good things about this restaurant. The food was amazing, the service was perfect, and if you’re into piano music you cannot beat the atmosphere. My wife and I dined here for our 8th wedding anniversary. Hands down one of the best restaurant experiences we’ve had.

My experience here was perfection. The ambiance was so lovely and the staff very attentive. I was lucky to enjoy Sunday Jazz which really added an extra level here. The food exceeded my expectations. Everything so fresh and such interesting flavor combinations. I wouldn’t change a thing. I rarely get a chicken dish out because it’s often bland or boring. This one was utterly amazing. The butternut squash purée coupled with the smokiness of the mushrooms and creaminess of the sauce was heaven. I hope to come back again soon!

We wanted to a fine place for our anniversary dinner. Haywood’s did not disappoint. We reserved a table online and it was ready when we arrived. The server was very pleasant and attentive. My wife had roasted chicken and I had the pan seared bass. We both enjoyed our meals. There was pleasant live piano music. The atmosphere was f9rmal, yet not stuffy. A great place to have a relaxing delicious meal.

My husband and I were in town for a long weekend getaway and the owner of our AirBnB suggested this place for a romantic dinner. The food was amazing! We both had the ribeye cooked to a different level, executed perfectly. The piano player gave a wonderful atmosphere, our drinks were great, and the service was fantastic. We didn’t go more than 5-10 minutes before someone asked how our evening was going and how we liked everything. Definitely recommend and will definitely return if we’re in the area again!

The food was very good and we had no complaints about the quality.

However, the service was extremely disappointing. We were not served bread until after we had already finished our steaks. Meanwhile, two tables seated after us were served bread (one table once and another table twice), while we received none during most of our meal.

When we asked about it, we were told the bread was still in the oven, even though other tables were already eating bread.

In addition, throughout our entire dinner, no staff member checked on us, asked how the food was, or asked if we needed anything. It felt like we were invisible.

For a restaurant at this price point, the service did not match the quality of the food.

Came for brunch. Ordered the mini sausage and egg casserole. When they say mini, they do mean mini– it came in a casserole dish about three inches big. Was expecting far more for a $20 meal. There were loosely cooked eggs used on top which resulted in less of a casserole and more of a goopy soupy sausage mess. I left it half eaten mostly because it just tasted like runny sausage. Massively disappointing. My partner enjoyed their mushroom omelet. Service was fine, atmosphere was nice. If I returned, I would avoid the casserole next time.

Nice atmosphere and they had a live pianist playing during my dinner service. All the food was fabulous. The one complaint I have is that the service was subpar. The waitress didn’t do a very good job of explaining the specials, the chicken special was described as, “seasoned different than the normal chicken on the menu”. We ordered the cheese platter that was on special and wasn’t told what cheese were on the plate, there wasn’t a fork or a cheese knife with the platter either. Overall though, nice place with good food.

I’ve been visiting Lexington for years but for some reason or another never made it to Haywood’s until last night (1-08-21) though I’ve always intended to, and this visit was actually on a whim. My date (a Lexington resident) had mentioned to me that she had also never been, and she found that there was a reservation open, so we grabbed it. Haywood’s calls itself a piano bar (at least on the cocktail napkins) but it’s really an upscale eatery that features live piano, and the music had apparently began just before our arrival at six. While we’re on the subject, I’m not sure if the pianist (who was obviously talented) was playing from a fake book or from more detailed arrangements, but the tunes seemed to all be in the same upbeat jazz style, even though some of the standards could have used more lush and languid arrangements when it came to the ballads. On to the food: we started with the cheese and charcuterie plate that featured their pickles (made in-house), a Wensleydale lemon cheese (unusual and nice) a balsamic Bellavitano, a unique kiwi and lime jam also prepared in-house, and three cured meats, all beautifully arranged. Our entrees: for her, the mushroom tagliatelle which she loved and looked terrific and for myself, the grilled bone-in pork chop served with braised red cabbage, German spätzle, and finished off at the table by our server with a pork jus from a carafe. Everything in my dish was perfect and the cut was substantial. (We actually had to pack up part of our entrees for home as we were foundered on the cheese course.) We also had an a la carte order of their phenomenal roasted Brussel sprouts, so, of course there was no room for dessert. Overall an excellent first impression from an establishment that we’ll be getting back to sooner than later now that we know what we’ve been missing.
