First of all, all the pastries and sandwiches we got were freshly made and delicious – way above what we expected.
I was also impressed that this is the first cafe/restaurant in SF that didn’t even have landfill trash – you only see compost, recycle, or wash/reuse bin.
Later today, I visited their website and found this statement – “a non profit social enterprise providing employment and training for people with disabilities, who are homeless or at risk.” So they’re sustainable and also humanitarian. I think we need more places like this, especially in SF.
My fiance and I entered here without much thoughts and expectations, and we decided to visit here again (although we don’t live nearby).
The cookies and other baked items are super yummy too!
I tried their banana bread, which is delicious with good texture; and a mushroom empadana that was good as well but I wished it had been a bit richer.
Also their jalapeño biscuit sandwich was soft and very tasty. They use cornmeal, and it’s not spicy. Had it warmed up, and the egg was still soft and warm on the inside.
Really affordable for most SF places, and they don’t upcharge you for milk substitutions, I really appreciate that.
