We enjoyed a wonderful dinner here tonight. The service was warm and attentive, the ambiance was inviting, and the food was excellent for the price point (though the shrimp cocktail fell a bit short). We’ll definitely be returning and recommending to others.

A restaurant hidden deep within the campus of Goddard College (now closed)

Folks are attempting to use the former university campus space but the endowment was clearly insufficient for the college to continue on. A few purchase deals have fallen through.

In the meantime, we support as we can. This time the beneficiary was Feed VT.

My wife and I are locals and had dinner there for the first time. I must say that Chef Zak put together an excellent restaurant out of a somewhat difficult location. The food is excellent, clearly made with good quality ingredients, and cooked to perfection. I am gluten intolerant, the waitress was perfectly knowledgeable of the issue of being celiac. She and the chef took care of me perfectly: gluten free bun for an excellent burger, and delicious hand cut french fries made in the oven rather then the fryer to avoid contamination. Thank you Chef Zak, thank you Viviana. The wines we choose were also very good: Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. The ambiance is warm and welcoming. A light soffused music in the background that did not interfere with having a conversation. Total complete satisfaction at the right price. Please visit this local restaurant, Chef Zak and his team deserve to be successful, because they fill a missing gap in what the extended Montpelier area has to offer in term of good food, made with fresh ingredients. NECI in Main Street Montpelier was good, and we lost it because of the pandemic. Haybarn Restaurant & Lounge is the new option filling that loss.

The Haybarn is an absolute gem! I can’t say enough great things about this restaurant. I was blown away by how beautiful everything looked — the atmosphere is both elegant and inviting, creating the perfect dining experience.

The food was absolutely outstanding! Everything we ordered was perfection! I can’t stop thinking about the onion rings — I’ve never had them so perfectly cooked: crisp, golden, and delicious.

The staff were friendly, attentive, and welcoming, which made our visit even more enjoyable. I can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu!

This is a great new place to go in the Barre Montpelier area. Menu options and prices are great, we’ve been there twice and enjoyed both times. Both the food and service are excellent, we’ll definitely be regulars there.

Nightmare restaurant experience. As someone who has worked as a bartender for a small town restaurant I hate to leave a poor review, but our experience was appalling. My wife and I were in the area for New Years and saw the event, we wanted to do something since we were far from home and thought this would be a good experience. Wrong. We made a reservation days beforehand for 7pm on New Year’s Eve. We showed up at 6:55pm and a host sat us immediately and filled our water. That was the only interaction we had with staff for 35 minutes. We moved to the bar at 7:30pm and were helped for the first time. The bartender was kind but obviously completely overwhelmed. We got two beers (canned they have no tap here) and then again were not acknowledged by a single staff member. 8:15pm I was fed up, tossed a $20 on the bar and left, didn’t even bother trying to get change for our two beers. It was worth the extra money to be able to leave.
I can not say how the food is because we never placed an order. We arrived at 6:55pm knowing exactly what we were going to order and left at 8:15pm without even getting the opportunity to place that order. A note about the staff, bartender seemed to be trying very hard and was kind but clearly was thrown into the fire on a special event night with no help and minimal training. Both servers were likely overwhelmed but showed no sense of urgency, and lacked a lot of simple server etiquette, I’m assuming because they both don’t have much experience. Someone who seemed to be in charge did come up and ask the bartender if she needed help, anyone with eyes could see she did, but then proceeded to stand and do nothing.

To the manager/owner, I’m assuming your operation is new, and great for you people are clearly interested. If you’re going to do special events you need to have staff that knows what they’re doing. And even if they know what they’re doing, if you have two servers and a bartender it needs to be reservation only, because even if they were trained last night they stood no chance at succeeding given the circumstance they were put in and that’s not on them.

I wish this small restaurant success and maybe if I had gone on another night it would have been a five star experience. However, the night I made a reservation for and showed up excited to celebrate was the poorest restaurant experience I’ve had. I’d give zero stars if I could.

Had dinner New Years eve. Booked online. We have never eaten there but saw great reviews and the online menu looked terrific. Arrived at 6:15 for a 6:30 reservation. We were seated immediately and was handed menus. The menu was limited, I assume because of NYE. After a few minutes the 4 of us ordered drinks, appetizers and dinner . Received the drinks after 20 minutes. After another hour. We were bought 3 of the appetizers , and 1 of the dinners. We pointed out that if they were bringing everything out at once, we were missing 3 dinners and an appetizer. The waitress said I believe those were being set up as she was leaving. Another 45 minutes pass, and the waitress arrived with 2 dinners and a dried up pannazella salad. She also arrived with apologies and the promise of free desserts. Guess what? The free desserts turned out to be a dream. When we got the check, we had been there 3 hours. I took the check to pay, the person at the bar couldn’t take my money, I had to give it to the waitress. As far as the food goes it was average, I had the whole belly clam appetizer for $22. It was overcooked with a lot of it being fried breading and if there were a half ounce of clams I’d be amazed. That was a hard $200 bill to pay
