The atmosphere is classy and romantic. I especially liked that they had a brighter light that shown down on the table so you could still read your menu while not ruining the ambience. The staff were attentive but not hovering. My delicious fruit infused water was never empty. Each individual course came out in a timely manner. The offerings were original, tasty, and beautiful to look at. We had the rib eye steak, perfectly cooked, and truffle frites. We split the main course, which was plenty of food. We even had to take some home.

Had a great dinner tonight with a party of four. The Halibut was amazing and that sauce was so good. The Ribeye was one of the best steaks my friend had ever had. Thank you to the chef and Krista F. for being a great server! The bread pudding and ice cream that came with it were a fun blend of salty and sweet. If you get a salad, entree and dessert plan on about $60-75 per person including tip and the food is worth it.

I am on a mission to find the best tasting quality food in the Spokane/CDA area. I have to admit people told me for weeks to come here, but I kept passing it up because its in a gas station parking lot. I even made some jokes to the servers about it when I came in.
Here is what we ordered and my rating from 1-5 (5 being the best)

Old fashioned cocktail – 4/5
– Actually made with a single cubed piece of ice
– Cocktail was made with a heavy pour but who complains about more alcohol

Steamed Clams – 5/5
– Absolutely amazing. By far the best steamed clams I have ever had in my life. The White wine sauce was amazing
– The bread that it comes with is also very good

Duck Breast with Mushroom Risotto – 10/5
– Perfectly cooked and super flavorful
– Mushroom Risotto was also very good as well.

I have a bunch more restaurants to try around here, but this will definitely be one that I come back to for seconds and more.

My wife and I joined another couple for Valentine’s Day dinner at Hay J’s Bistro on Friday, Feb. 14, 2025. It was our first time dining at the restaurant. I want to start this review by saying we had a good time. It is a cozy spot and everyone who works there is extremely nice, including Megan, our server. We had a reservation for 7:30 p.m. and it was ready for us on the dot.

Bread was brought out early and it was tasty. My wife ordered a cup of the seafood chowder which she really enjoyed. When it came to our entrees, my wife ordered the ribeye ($54) and I ordered the prime rib ($54) which was part of that night’s special. I appreciated the fact that they allowed me to substitute the baked potato with garlic mashed potatoes. We don’t mind paying a little extra for our meat, but I was a tad disappointed with ours. The flavor was good but both of our cuts were a little tough. I think I was hoping more for that tender, “melt in your mouth” type experience.

Couple other observations: We were the last ones to leave the restaurant and I extend my gratitude to the staff for not showing us any attitude or trying to whisk us out. When we left, they were all very kind and gracious. It would be nice if bread baskets were refilled and there was more of an initiative to refill drinks (i.e. I had a Dr. Pepper and it was empty for a long time before I asked for a refill). I don’t know if we will return but I can definitely see the charm of Hay J’s.

We hadn’t been here for quite a while, so we stopped in for lunch. The gorgonzola salad is now my favorite in the Spokane area. It’s not overloaded with lettuce, which is how I like it. The pickled onions were delicious. My husband had the smash burger and said was “ok.” The fries were good.

Feel so fortunate to have stumbled onto this hidden gem while waiting for an extensive auto repair during a road trip. We ate here 3 times in 2 days! Seafood chowder- Amazing… the Calamari was a repeater, bistro medallion dinner was fabulous. Hope we can find our way back someday….

Hidden gem. From the street cannot tell what a NICE dine in restaurant this place is. Had the rib eye cooked to perfection (medium). Cesar salad was perfect loved the bib lettuce mixed with romaine add a nice texture. Wait staff attentive and super friendly. Definitely recommend this place for a special evening or if you just want to go out to a nice place yo treat you and a loved one. Best to make a reservation.

Nina, our server was fantastic. Salads were flavorful and chilled. Bolognese pasta was delicious. The chicken Marsala was also tasty. I feel like that quality of the meat has declined. I’ve had several NY strips there however the past two were not nearly as tender and had some gristle through them. I believe that the trim is the issue not the preparation. The bread and oil is also delicious.
