I have to say, Hawthorn’s oysters were legit—super fresh, and the onion soup was absolutely delicious. The lobster bisque tasted good, but wow, it was heavy with a really strong orange flavor. Coconut shrimp? Total hit. Even the non-seafood fans couldn’t stop talking about it, and yeah, serving it in a coconut shell was just cool. Sadly, things went downhill with the 8 oz steak. The filet was cold, dry, and honestly, just tough and bland. Super disappointing texture—never had a filet that bad before. Most of our dishes came out lukewarm; asparagus was stringy and barely warm, and the lobster looked great but tasted like it’d also been waiting in the kitchen. What didn’t help? The server took ten minutes to check on us after we got our food, so by the time anything could change, one of us ate alone. The other dishes had already been picked up. Indeed, they did swap out the overcooked filet, and the second was cooked fine, but the beef quality was still not what you’d expect for filet mignon—tough and forgettable. All in all, the apps were fine, but the main courses fell short. Would’ve loved some better quality and hotter food.

I recently ordered takeout from this spot and overall had a very good experience. The prices are quite reasonable, and the portions felt fair for the value. I went with the filet mignon cooked medium rare, and it was executed perfectly—tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The Caesar salad was crisp and refreshing, while the fries arrived piping hot and satisfying.
The only miss for me was the mac and cheese, which turned out a bit too runny and lacked the creamy richness I was hoping for. Since I only did takeout, I can’t speak much to the service or full ambiance, but the space looked inviting from what I saw. All in all, a solid option while staying at the hotel.

Food was delicious. Salmon dinner was exquisite. Chicken dinner was so flavorful. Ambience was serene, modern and romantic. We celebrated my husband’s birthday as a treat from his mom, who enjoys the Hawthorn Grill/ Rampart/JW Marriott.

Our family chose Hawthorne Grill to celebrate our daughter’s 8th birthday, and it was an experience of highs and lows. The service, however, was a real highlight and made the evening memorable. Every staff member we encountered was exceptional. The general manager was welcoming, our food runner was prompt and professional, and the executive sous chef (or perhaps she was the chef de partie) personally made sure we were enjoying our meal. The entire team’s attentiveness made us feel truly special.
The ambiance of the restaurant was perfect for a special occasion. However, the lighting could use a bit of an adjustment. Some parts of the restaurant were a bit too dark, which was noticeable since there were no lights on the tables themselves.
For the food, we started with the Maryland-style crab cake and the fried coconut shrimp. The crab cake itself was delicious, but the accompanying mango grilled salad was disappointingly small, amounting to what seemed like only two teaspoons. The coconut shrimp, on the other hand, was fantastic, with a light and crispy breading.
The main course was what everyone was most excited about, but it unfortunately ended up being a disappointment. The 48 oz. Porterhouse was a big letdown. While the cut of meat was excellent, it was surprisingly unseasoned. However, the sides were a highlight. The asparagus was perfectly cooked, even with the larger stalks, and the bone marrow was well-seasoned and on point. A small suggestion for the bone marrow would be to serve it with a couple of large slices of French bread, as the dinner rolls didn’t quite complement it for spreading.
On a sweeter note, the chocolate cake they brought out for our little one was really, really good and a perfect birthday treat!
My only other suggestion would be regarding the wine list. The selection of wines by the glass was quite limited, and I wish they would expand it to offer a few more options.
Overall, despite the disappointing steak, the outstanding service and thoughtful birthday celebration made it a wonderful evening.

Outstanding service. The atmosphere could have been better as there were several screaming children in my section, but that’s not necessarily the fault of the staff. It was a little disappointing to approach the host desk only to have to wait for the host to finish a phone call. The server I had, Andrew, was outstanding. Food was fine. Cocktails were okay too. I would consider dining here again if in the area, but I wouldn’t go out of my way just to eat here.

I have been in for awhile. But, the service and the food was still top notch! The young ladies that greeted us at the counter were very nice! Our server Camille was great! The food was hot, fresh and absolutely delicious! But, the highlight of the dinner was Assistant manager Terry! He was extremely nice, helpful, friendly and Lots of laughs! This place has some really good Happy Hour items. Also went here during restaurant week and got a great deal. I was quite impressed w truffle fries. We’re more like potato wedges, but delicious. My steak was really good as well and the cherry tart dessert was super delicious. Good service too.
