The food was delicious, every bite was delightful, and it made us want to come back again. The portions were perfect!
We ordered quite a few dishes: the 450g ribeye, mac & cheese, mash with gravy, Caesar salad, oysters, bone marrow with onions, and the belly rib. I also had a sour cherry Negroni.
The ribeye was cooked really well, but the flavour was just okay, similar to something I could make at home. Id recommend getting a sauce, as that may have made it better. The mac & cheese had an unexpected sweetness and the cheese didn’t feel fully melted. The gravy was as expected, and the Caesar salad tasted good, though the appetizer portion was smaller than anticipated (only a few romaine leaves).
The oysters were good, and the bone marrow with onions ended up being my favourite dish. It was my first time trying bone marrow, and although the onions overpowered it a bit, it was still really enjoyable. The belly rib was well cooked but under-seasoned, and the salad it came with had a strong black-licorice flavour that wasn’t for me. The sour cherry Negroni, however, was delicious, a highlight of the meal!
Service was the standout of the night. The restaurant was packed and loud (holiday season, so understandable), but the staff were attentive without being overbearing. They let me know they’d sold out of the lobster I ordered and offered a free side to make up for it, which I appreciated. We did have to check on our drink order, and although they mentioned comping a drink for the delay, it still showed up on the bill — not a huge deal, just a small oversight. The birthday chocolates at the end were a really thoughtful touch.
Overall, the food ranged from okay to good, but the service was excellent and genuinely elevated the experience. That’s the reason I’m giving four stars instead of three. I’d come back for the service and drinks, and maybe try different dishes next time.
First came here on their opening week 20 years ago. And the steaks are probably still the best in London.
Friendly and efficient service, in a buzzy dining room.
Awesome, as always. Highly recommended.
Food and steak is ok and a bit overpriced. I recommend the rib-eye though. 300g-350g per person is enough:)
La Rosa red wine is amazing.
We grabbed a table, ordered a very charming bottle of Valpolicella, and went for the “let’s share everything and regret nothing” approach.
Here’s what we tackled: Old Spot belly ribs, fillet with bone marrow and caramelized onion (fancy but make it delicious), a glorious Chateaubriand, and a Sirloin steak. On the side, we invited spinach with lemon and garlic, roasted sweet potato, mash and gravy, and some crispy beef dripping fries to the party. It was a feast. A glorious, unapologetic feast.
Only one tiny hiccup: the fillet was a bit over on the doneness scale – more well-done than medium rare. But honestly, we were too happy and full to care. Everything else was a solid hit.
Already plotting our return to see what other tasty surprises the menu’s hiding.
Restaurant is highly recommended.
