Hawkins House of Burgers – Los Angeles

I really wanted to love Hawkins, but I think I went in with expectations that were set a bit too high by social media hype.

We ordered three burgers, chili fries, regular fries, and lemonade, and the wait was roughly 40 minutes, standing outside the entire time. I’m generally patient when it comes to food—especially legendary spots—but the wait-to-quality ratio here didn’t quite land.

The burgers themselves were just okay. Not bad by any means, but nothing that stood out or justified the reputation as one of the best burgers in LA. Unfortunately, the chili fries were the biggest miss—the chili tasted burnt and overcooked, to the point where we couldn’t really enjoy them.

I fully respect the history and legacy of this place, and I can see why some people love it, but for me it landed squarely in the middle of the pack. There are many other burger spots around LA that I personally prefer at this point.

All said, it’s a solid 3/5 experience—fine, but not something I’d go out of my way for again, especially given the wait.

The food was delicious! The reviews aren’t lying, the burgers are good . We got the Whipper burger, it’s huge. It’s big enough to honestly feed 2 people. The whipper burger’s sausage is fire . It has the perfect amount of spice to give the burger a bit of a kick! The fries are soooo good, it doesn’t have that much seasoning but still good regardless. The pastrami sandwich is good too, i wish it had more seasoning though. 4/5 stars. BE AWARE OF THE AREA TOO‼️ Stay alert. Regardless, it’s a 4/5. I would 100% come back

This place is amazing. A local classic for burgers. They’re pretty big so keep that in mind when ordering. I’ve been eating here for years, and there has always been a 20+ minute wait to warn you. Their pastrami and hot links are tasty too. I did order their huge “leaning tower of watts” once–epic, but hard to eat, it was way too much food for me, my son and my friend.

I ordered through Ubereats so cannot speak on Customer Service or location. Food is delicious. You would be doing yourself a disservice to ignore the refreshing Strawberry lemonade. Burgers are fresh and the lettuce gives a complimentary crispness. Fries are delish. Yogi approved! My food came hot and ready. I was privileged to enjoy this historical eatery! Well done!

This place offers a variety of hamburgers, including the Watts hamburger, which is large enough to share. They also serve chicken strips and fries made from scratch.

While I personally wasn’t very impressed by the food, my companion enjoyed it. There is no seating available, and the surrounding neighborhood is not very clean, which impacts the overall experience. It may be worth trying if you’re curious, but it wasn’t a standout for me.

Several FB food critics highly praised this establishment. When I heard gospel music playing, I knew my food was anointed. It was only a 20min wait which isn’t bad for fresh food. I had a bacon cheeseburger, onion rings and sb lemonade. No point in taking it home bc I pulled over at the nearest park and to’into it!!! Burger Thicky-thick, fresh ingredients, whole lotta bacon and very well seasoned Onion rings perfect! Strawberry lemonade real fruit chunks right level of sweetness. I’m in phat girl paradise is all I can say. Definitely worth the 30mi drive.

Best burger in LA hands down. Considered moving to Nickerson just so I could walk here everyday but my wife talked me out of it. Luckily it’s on my way home if I decide to take the scenic route. If you can call in your order. Always fresh & other than the burgers I’ve gotten the fried fish which also phenomenal.

This place is a legend in LA for its burgers. But there are some considerations for when you go. Be observant of your surroundings.

Order in advance- if not, expect about 30-40 minutes before receiving your burger. Call it in and they will text when it’s ready to be picked up.

The burger is beyond exceptional – about as best as you can possibly expect for a burger joint, and better than any chain restaurant by a long shot. – A+ The fries- solid B, service- A – everyone is very friendly.

Although my burger taste great, it’s definitely smaller than what it use to be. And i had way less pastrami than before. It’s an in the cut hood spot. So of course the atmosphere isn’t great. But, I’ve been eating here since I first got teeth lol. Jk but I’ve literally been eating here my whole life.
