The laid back atmosphere. The staff that treats you like a long time friend and a meal experience plated like a true craftsman, this hole in the wall is a hidden gym amongst buildings. Well worth the stop.

Im giving this place 5 stars, because the food was that damn good, the restaurant is hot and you might wait on your food, but it is worth it. I ate the starter with my fiance and my whole plate of food and still feel great to go on a walk or run, I dont feel over stuffed or tired from eating. However, this place is a small restaurant and if you ain’t looking you will miss it. I recommend if you wanna try new food, and have a great experience and have even better food I would come here.

We went there for dinner with our two kids. We have dietary restrictions with need of vegan and gluten free options. The first server who came to us was a lady and she was so rude and impolite. We were just asking her what items on the menu will be safe for us and she just shoved us. She left unexpectedly and sent us another server. He was very kind and patient t. He heard us patiently and also offered us modifications to the items that will be safe for us. When it was time to bring in food, our server had to step out for a moment and the lady brought us food. When we asked her which dish is what she again became frustrated and told us “my job was to just bring you food on the table I don’t know which food is what”. She just dumped everything on the table and left. That was so disrespectful. Ultimately, we requested the other server to come and tell us about the dishes. While the food was good and the other server did amazing. Our experience was severely affected by the behavior of the female server. We noticed that she had similar behavior on other tables as well. We would recommend this place for good food especially when you have restrictions but the server can be tricky and also there no kids friendly options on the menu. We had to customize a lot to make it ok for kids to enjoy their meal.

This was much more than going out for a meal. This was a dining experience. The chef is on point, hard to find this qaulity of scratch made food. In our area. Highly recommended.

Been here 2x. First time was great, got the pork noodles that came with a solid great chili sauce. Looked forward to another tasty plate 2nd time and ordered spicy red curry chicken with vegetables and rice. This plate was so dang bland, zero heat but also no flavor. No creamy curry either. It was very plain chx pieces in a redish water with overcooked veg. It’s not even close to a curry plate and far from a dinner I would expect from a finer foodie restaurant. I’m sad bc I thought I had found a diamond in the rough here in IA. I’ll keep looking.

Classy, romantic vibe with table cloths & mood lighting. Fleetwood Mac in the background. Wowee, food was AMAZING! Unique well-combined flavors. Perfectly cooked fish. The bread pudding is to die for. We were a lucky walk in, reservations are recommended. Dressing up is unnecessary, a come as you are place, but the environment lends well to an anniversary or special occasion.

Chef Jared’s food is always amazing. Burlington is so lucky to have him and his little restaurant, the Hawaiiowan.
A lot of love and imagination goes into this food. Portions are large and satisfying. I recently got the bibimbap with beef and the beet + goat cheese salad—amazing and I had lots left over for lunch the next day. Atmosphere is cozy and the drinks yummy. Great dessert drinks and menu too—I love the bread pudding!
I have not tried them, but there are also lots of vegan options!
The restaurant is on the smaller side so I definitely recommend making dinner reservations on the weekend. Thanks for all the love and hard work you put into the Hawaiiowan, Jared!

The food is amazing, the drinks are delicious, and the service is stellar. We don’t live here, but when we come to visit, we make a point to eat here. I’ve lived in 7 cities and this place is in my top 3 favorite restaurants. Love it.

The exterior was hard to find. Not adequate signage or lighting. There was an open sign bit I didn’t know what was open. And they said they were open still serving. Once we got inside and seated it was very nice. Kinda like a mini Martini’s without the view. The menu options were amazing. Have a great drink selection even though I don’t drink. The. Decor is very appealing. Overall a great place. I wish them success.
