Great Coffee for Great People | Love great coffee?! Come hang out with us!! Our open, vibrant cafe is located across from Center 45 Climbing Gym right off Bamboo Rd in East Boone. We have a modern espresso bar with a flavorful seasonal menu. We also have amazing tea and non-coffee beverages. All of our coffee is roasted in house. Hatchet Coffee has a way of feeling instantly familiar, even if you’re not sure you’ve been before. On our second trip to Boone, we pulled up to the café and were struck by that déjà vu sense of comfort an immediate excitement that confirmed we’d found one of the High Country’s true gems.
This was our second visit, and once again Hatchet proved itself to be among the best coffee purveyors in the region. The line was long, but the anticipation only added to the ritual; after all, we had a 45-minute drive ahead to Grandfather Mountain, and good coffee was non-negotiable.
At the counter, the staff embodied the kind of hospitality that makes a place unforgettable. The cashier was warm and attentive, quick to ask questions when she didn’t have an answer, and genuinely excited to help. I had come to swap ground beans for whole, and while the exchange wasn’t possible, they graciously sent me home with a bag of Brazilian beans instead a gesture that spoke volumes about their passion and care.
Despite the bustle, the wait was brief, and the atmosphere remained convivial. One of the baristas even struck up a conversation with me about my jacket, a small but meaningful interaction that elevated the experience beyond the cup.
Hatchet Coffee is more than a café it’s a community hub, a place where quality and connection meet. With its exceptional brews, thoughtful staff, and welcoming spirit, it’s the kind of spot you’ll find yourself returning to again and again.

Best coffee in Boone!! The avocado toast is also amazing with just the right amount of spice. My go to is the sweet bee latte which is sweet and just the right amount of honey. It’s also a great place to stop in to get some homework done. I would highly recommend Hatchet for a coffee stop in Boone, NC.

Definitely popular. There is only table seating or “bar” type seating. Lots of variety of people hanging out. The matcha was pretty sweet. I was there long enough to have a drip dark roast and was surprised it was pretty bitter.

I’m pretty picky and look for a cortado on the menu or take a look at their espresso machine to measure the expected quality of a coffee shop when traveling. This place did not disappoint. The cortado was perfect and the flavor of the bean was delicious. The cherry on top was the Kouign-amann pasty on the menu.

Hatchet Coffee is one of my favorite spots to grab a great cup of coffee and enjoy some delicious food. On my visit, I ordered a latte, and the barista surprised me by making the latte art into a cute little bear! It was such a fun touch, and the drink itself was absolutely delicious… smooth, creamy, and perfectly balanced.
But Hatchet Coffee is so much more than just great coffee. Their food menu is impressive with plenty of tasty options. I am a big fan of their avocado toast, which is always fresh and flavorful. The focaccia bread is another favorite of mine. They also have amazing fruit tarts and so many other choices that make it hard to pick just one.
The atmosphere at Hatchet is really inviting. It’s a great place to come whether you want to study quietly or catch up with friends. The vibe is cozy but lively, with plenty of seating and natural light that makes it easy to settle in for a while.
On top of all that, they offer some awesome merchandise and coffee mugs. It’s fun to take a little piece of Hatchet Coffee home with you or find the perfect gift for a coffee lover.
