I got the fried chicken and the pad Thai and it was delicious but tbh it wasn’t super special… the pad Thai was a lot more flavorful then some hole in the wall Thai spot (and I’ve been to a LOT of those) and it was good but not the best. The fried chicken was mids imo. I had heard this was a “must eat” in Portland but I’m not sure if it is… however I do see they have brisket curry so I WILL be going back to try it!

One of the most delicious fried chicken we’ve ever had! We loved the crispiness from the outside and the juicyiness and tender from the inside. My husband and my son enjoyed their brisket curry and Neau Pad Yi-Rah
(stir-fried flank steak in red curry paste, cumin, yellow onion, and ginger, served with jasmine rice). The southern Pad Thai tasted different compared to central of Thailand Pad Thai, but we still enjoyed it. The roti with custard is a must-try! They offer both indoor seating as well as many picnic tables outside for those who come with a dog like us or just want to enjoy the nice weather while eating yummy food. #thebestfriedchicken

Came in for the first time with a friend, and we got great recommendations at the register. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. We had the #4 and the brisket curry. The combo was really fun to eat, and the chicken was deliciously crispy. The flavor of the brisket curry was phenomenal and the meat was perfectly tender. The dining room was busy but we found a table immediately and the room had good energy but was not loud. Great experience .

Dined alone for lunch, had their most popular plate chicken curry and rice. +soda $25
(2ppl can share possibly)

Everyone around seemed to love it, everyone cleared their plates. Personally, I did love their chicken. It was very fresh and crispy.

I wasn’t a fan of the curry or sticky rice, but maybe that’s just me. Definitely a must try, it was actually flavor/tasting I haven’t had tried before.

We enjoyed a great night out to dinner here with our small group. The cocktails were creative & delicious! Their menu is full of flavorful options with fun spins on Thai classics. The fried chicken was absolutely amazing, the sticky rice was the best texture and the pad Thai was truly – perfect. I’ll definitely be back!

The hype is well deserved! We ordered a Mango Horchata, a Fried chicken Curry & Roti Set, Hokkien noodles, Dessert Roti. Loved everything we ordered.

Visited Hat Yai Restaurant based on a friend’s recommendation.
Ordered Southern Pad Thai, Brisket Curry, and Thai iced coffee online for pickup.
There is no dedicated parking, only street parking around the restaurant. I was lucky to find a spot this time.
Google search showed the restaurant closing at 3 PM and reopening at 4 PM, so I rushed to arrive before 3. However, the official website listed different hours, so I recommend checking the website before visiting.
The food was decent overall, with the brisket curry being rich and flavorful.
4 stars.

Hat yai is a go-to whenever I visit Portland. Their chicken is crisp and light, seriously nothing like I’ve ever eaten before. The curry + roti is so flavorful, usually served with a side of pickled vegetables. The coconut mango horchata drink is also super refreshing and a staple for my meal as well.

Overpriced for what it is, especially considering the small portion sizes and the aggressively self-service approach to running a restaurant. You get your own menu, order at a counter, and find your own water, etc. Takeaway boxes are self-service as well, which is less of an issue because they are unlikely to be needed much given the aforementioned small portion sizes. The food isn’t bad, by any means, and this place boasts a considerable cocktail lineup. Unfortunately, there is just much better Thai food in Portland, at much better prices with a much higher standard of service.

A very bustling place with tasty food and cute drinks!

We went with the Hat Yai fried (half) chicken that came with rice. That chicken was incredibly crispy and juicy! Sounds like a very simple dish, but it packed flavor and is a great option for someone who might be on the pickier side of things. We also ordered some curry, which tasted sweeter than expected, but paired well with everything else we ordered. The dish was comforting on a chilly/rainy day and would definitely be back, if in the area.
