My experience dining in was pretty good. My sister made a reservation for Sunday around 7:00pm. Did not have to wait long to get seated. We ordered the jerk chicken roti quesadilla and jerk egg rolls from the small bites section to share and those two dishes were so yummy. Then for our entrees we both got the curry potatoes and chickpeas. It was just okay but we definitely enjoyed the small bites better so definitely recommend those. The restaurant is cute but a little on the small side. The service was also great during our experience. Parking is terrible so you may struggle to find parking because it is located in an area of Jersey City that is congested. So be prepared for that.

This was my third visit to Harry’s Daughter and for good reason. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming. The service is quick, and the food comes out hot every time. On my last visit I had Harriet(I hope that’s her name, please forgive me if it isn’t) and she was so sweet. Every thing I’ve tried during my three visits has been a hit; oxtails, crab back, egg rolls, jerk chicken , French toast, and chicken and waffles was delicious! And the pina colada?!? The best I’ve EVER had!!! We love Harry’s Daughter over here!

It’s a Caribbean fusion restaurant…so while most of the flavors were there, some items were a little wanting. Keep in mind taste is individual. My friend loved the jerk chicken egg roll, I thought it was ok. The smoked herring back was spot on for me. Yes, I will return.

Harry’s Daughter Restaurant Review
A visit to Harry’s Daughter in Jersey City revealed its aesthetically pleasing decor and inviting atmosphere, which is ideal for romantic or casual dining. Located at 339 Communipaw Avenue in Jersey City, it shows what to expect when you walk in. You are greeted with a waiter and a selection of great music in the background that accompanies the smooth Caribbean decor with clothed and lit candles on the tables. The kitchen is open for viewing chefs hard at work in the back of the restaurant.
Due to the restaurant being full, takeout was chosen. We sat at the bar and ordered beverages while talking to the bartender, who was very friendly. In the meantime, I spoke to the manager, and she was extremely friendly and informative about the history of the restaurant.
I ordered fish and chips with a side of lobster mac and cheese. It was somewhat disappointing due to slight soggy fries because the dark battered fried fish was put on top of them, and lack of seasoning. The lobster mac and cheese was underwhelming with only small cut pieces of lobster on top and no cheddar taste. I was looking for the lobster to be combined with the mac and cheese, which would have given it better flavor. Overall, I must say my order tasted good and I had no complaint about the portions.
The next order was Nachos. My friend who was born in Mexico said he liked them, but he said the spoonful of guacamole was in the corner of the box instead of in a nice small container on the side. In Mexico, food is cooked and prepared so much differently than we prepare them. The red sauce was also in another corner of the takeout box, which could have been in a separate container. He did say he enjoyed the taste of the Nachos, but when opening the container, its placement was a little sloppy.
Our overall thought about Harry’s Daughter is good according to what we ordered. I have friends who have been there and enjoyed their experiences. The manager asked that we would return and eat in, and I said yes. My rating from 1-10 is 7.5 because of the mac and cheese. when it comes to service 8, and decor 9.

Once you try the Rias Rum Punch, you will be automatically sitting on a beach in Jamaica chilling lostening to music with a drink in your hand, it is amazing✨️ This restaurant is a great little treasure. The hostess was very kind, the workers were very nice. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was very comfortable. This is a nice place to kickback, relax, and enjoy some good food with the right company you are sure to have an excellent experience. I must advise that a reservation is a must!! And parking is not great, so plan on arriving at least a hour before to give yourself some time to find some parking.

The place is aesthetically pleasing but the food for brunch at least is pretty tasteless. The lack of seasoning in the “Seasoned chicken & waffles” I couldn’t believe it. The jerk chicken Mac and cheese was decent but the pasta had no flavor tasted like cheese and noodles , the jerk chicken was chopped up chicken breast no bone what’s so ever . The service is great but it doesn’t match the quality of the food. I was only able to eat half of my food due to it having an acquired after taste. Not to mention the rum punch mimosa was sour.

Warning for anyone drinking here: This bar automatically adds a 20% gratuity to all bills, and then still includes a “suggested tip” line on the receipt.
Automatic gratuity is fine if it’s clearly communicated in the pay area and “additional” is intentionally presented, but having both feels misleading by design. It is a UX dark pattern gotcha choice made by the owners. It makes it easy for customers to tip twice unknowingly and by accident, especially in a bar setting where attention is not always default. Just something to be aware of before you pay.
I get restaurants are struggling, but I’ll never repeat predatory establishments and will always leave warnings for others.

I loved the fish personally it was a good size, the nachos were okay, I wanted jerk shrimp added but it’s (regular shrimp) not jerk shrimp as the menu states. The pumpkin rice was okay, could’ve been more flavorful. Our server (don’t know her name) assuming she was a bartender and she could have cared less to refill our water but overall it was an okay experience.

My friend invited us she said the food was good. The cod fish fritters is missing the cod fish, Mac & cheese too soggy, oxtails was too hard which was taken off the bill but the bread pudding was delicious and my spicy drink because it has Demerara rum. It’s a nice place I may visit again and try something else.

My husband and I came here for his birthday dinner, and I must say that Harry’s Daughter will definitely see us again. The atmosphere was great with live music and absolutely positive vibes. The food was AMAZING. And so were the drinks. We had the Jerk Chicken Egg Rolls and the Roti Chicken Quesadilla, which is a meal in itself, to start. And for the main entrée we had the Double Braised Oxtail w/ Rice and Cabbage for the Mister, and The Curry Goat and Roti w/ cabbage for me. It was all delicious. We appreciate the staff and kudos to the chefs.
