We thoroughly enjoyed everything…the food, the atmosphere and our waitress Brooke. The only downfall…which really isn’t a downfall is we should have ate outside. Brooke was an excellent waitress….ask for her! I had the chicken salad sandwich…delicious! My husband and father in law ribeye and they thought it was great. One was just a touch too done…but it was still great. We sat on the deck outside afterwards for drinks. Beautiful scene! You have to go.

I’ve used enjoyed Harriet & Natives in the past, but my most recent visit was extremely disappointing …. both in terms of product quality and service standards. It feels like this establishment has undergone a major shift, and unfortunately, the change has not been for the better.

First, the food quality has noticeably declined. When I ordered, I asked if it was possible to remove the pickles and spicy mayo from the Cuban sandwich. The server responded that the food is now pre-made. That immediately raised a red flag for me because it suggests the items are no longer prepared fresh on site. She didn’t attempt to offer any alternative options, or solutions. she simply stood there and waited for me to move on. From a hospitality perspective, that’s a missed opportunity to provide basic guest care.

The service experience overall was substandard. The server never introduced herself, didn’t check on our table, and made no effort to engage. We were seated outside, but we could clearly see her inside talking with other customers leaning in, chatting, and giving them her full attention. Meanwhile, our table was completely ignored. She came by once to pick up a plate but didn’t ask if we were finished, didn’t offer dessert or the check, and didn’t acknowledge us again. We eventually had to go inside to request the bill because she simply never followed up.

The food itself looked mediocre (see attached photo), but the taste did indeed reflected that pre-made quality average at best, lacking freshness, and certainly not what Harriet & Natives was once known for. For a restaurant that built its reputation on authenticity, warmth, and community, this “assembly-line” feel is incredibly disappointing.

I completely understand that businesses evolve, and operations sometimes have to adjust for efficiency or cost. But there’s a way to do that without sacrificing the guest experience. When both the food and service decline simultaneously, it sends a clear message that the standards have slipped.

This visit felt careless and impersonal, which is the opposite of what good hospitality represents. I truly hope management takes the time to retrain staff on basic service etiquette and reevaluates the decision to serve pre-made items. Harriet & Natives used to stand out for its freshness, personality, and genuine connection with guests all of which seem to be missing now.

If you have guests in town and you want to take them to a fun place to eat then Harry and the Natives is your go to place. We love the outdoor feel of the large tiki room. It is so uniquely Florida in style. We had the coconut shrimp, chicken wings, onion rings, and chili. Loved all of the food choices we made. Such a fun place to read all the funny signs that are everywhere. Service was attentive and timely. Food came out hot and quickly. Portions were plentiful. We ate until full and still had some food left to take home. We always make an attempt to stop in whenever we are in the area.

We were on our way back from a doctor’s visit decided to stop by. Since this is the City we were engaged in.
I was taken back about the Haitian breakfast comment on the menu. Not tasteful. Coming from someone who has Haitian family and friends.Might want to modify that.

“Looking for a true Old Florida gem?”
“Harry and the Natives” in Hobe Sound has been serving up down-home comfort food since 1941 — and trust me, it’s not your average diner.
From Gator Hash & Poached Eggs for breakfast to laid-back lunch plates, live music, and hilarious vintage signs… this place is the real deal.
It’s quirky, it’s cozy, it’s Florida AF — and it’s been doing it right for over 80 years.
Even though the political views on the menu I may not agree with. It’s okay to agree to disagree. That’s what makes “The United States” wonderful we are entitled to our own political views.

Very unique place with lots of seating inside and out. Lots of unique props and signs decorating the space. Was there at a slower time of day and had a great meal and excellent service. The turkey club was well made with fresh ingredients. Looks like it csn get very crowded and large stage for live music.

Skip the $4 slice of bacon upcharge and keep in mind the cheese is also extra on the burgers. When you add bacon and cheese to the burger it comes out to $24 for just a burger. Everything else was great. The staff here is awesome. The food was pretty good. A bit on the pricey side for hand food but the great service and atmosphere makes up for it. Try the cucumber salad

Really fun place that dates back to 1941. Definitely quirky, but in a really fun way. Equally imoportant to setting a fun atmosphere, the food is quite good. Diners seem to be a thing in this area, and there is no shortage of good, diner type food at this restaurant. Would definitely recommend, and we will certainly be back when we come down again.

Harry and the Natives is one of those classic Florida spots that feels like a little slice of Old Florida charm—fun, quirky, and full of personality. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with plenty of humor sprinkled throughout the décor. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel like a local, even if you’re just passing through.
The food hits the spot in that comforting, no-fuss way. Portions are generous, flavors are solid, and everything comes out hot and fresh.
Service is friendly, quick, and down-to-earth—no pretension, just good people making sure you’re taken care of.
