Social Profile:

Harrows Chicken Pies are still made the same way they were in the 1930, with slow cooked chicken and rich homemade gravy made from scratch everyday. The pies are made just the way your grandmother would have made them 60 years ago, or the way you would if you had all day to spend in the kitchen. You can either call ahead to pick up a piping hot, ready-to-eat chicken pie, or pick up a cold one to bake at home. The pies are available in 4 different sizes, ranging from 1-6 servings. No matter what size your family is, Harrows can accommodate

Enduring takeaway spot for chicken pies, plus mashed potatoes, rolls & blueberry & apple pies.

I was really looking forward to trying Harrows based on all the great things I’ve heard, but I was left disappointed. The chicken in the pie was very good, but the carrots and potatoes were not. I have to agree with other reviews, the overall flavor is extremely bland. There was no seasoning at all, which made the meal fall flat.

I also ordered the mashed potatoes and squash, and unfortunately they were awful. Again, no seasoning. It tasted like everything was cooked to the bare minimum with no flavor. I had to add my own butter, salt, and pepper to the potatoes and butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg to the squash just to make it edible. The crust of the pie was also thick and gooey underneath, instead of flaky.

The one redeeming item was the cornbread, that was delicious, which is the only reason I gave 2 stars. I really wanted to love this place, but the lack of seasoning and quality in the sides was very disappointing.

I got the big Chicken Pot Pie w/Veggies and had you folks bake it and I picked it up right out of the oven the other day and let me say this, out of this world!! My family loved it but I also got a dozen and 1/2 of rolls. Delicious and I had seconds too!

Excellent chicken pies, plenty of delicious chicken! (the crust is also delicious.) A comfort meal anytime of the year but especially on a winter night! Very reasonably priced. A shout out to the staff at the Reading location, they are friendly and very nice!

These pies are classic, offering a taste of old-time American comfort food at its best. I can remember being a little kid growing up in Wakefield and frequently eating in at the Reading MA location. A great alternative to ordering a pizza (no offense pizza places) if you’re looking for takeout some night.

Bland pies and very little gravy. I don’t understand that. Why not use a decent amount of spices and gravy? I shouldn’t have to add my own to it to make it have flavor and a whole lot less dry. We aren’t wild animals eating prey that we just killed, after all.
