This was my first time eating here. The fox river bike trail is right behind this place and I came to go bikeing, however when I got out of the car to unload the bike I was drawn in by the smell of food. It is a combination bakery/restaurant offering tons of savory and sweet treats in yhe bakery section, and an expansive breakfast/lunch menu. Prices are just below awerage for typical breakfast places, and the portions are generous. Pancakes are literally the size of a small dinner plate, and the french toast I ordered was so thick, I could only finish 2 1/4 of the 3. The atmosphere is cozy, not overly loud with what seems to be a lot of regulars that come in. The location is right on the fox river with quick access to the trails. The restrooms were spacious and spotless. I would recommend, and will go back on my next trip down the trails.

If a classic diner feel is what you are after then you’ll be happy here. All the typical comfort foods are on the menu and the food is delicious. After you’ve eaten, you’ll want to step into the bakery and pick up a pie or a pastry. The choice of baked goods is overwhelming here and the prices are a good value. The pastries get bought up fast though so don’t delay.

Food was good.. Fries were nice and hot. nice to have the bakery. Bought cookies to take home. CFS sandwich was good but disappointed that it wasn’t homemade. Bought smiley heart cookies to bring home thought they were a sugar cookie. Disappointed they had nutmeg in them. They were ok but not what I was expecting. Maybe have signage on the items. Never assume the customer knows..

Breakfast was great. Nothing amazing but all around good.
We ate at the counter so we didn’t have to wait. They have tables that are looking outside by the river or creek.
Donuts were amazing but expensive. I think we paid like $22 for what you see but worth it
I ordered the Breakfast with raisin toast and took the bread home. We split each piece in half and shared so we had like 4 pieces of raisin bread.
Gonna be back for sure

Today I find myself at Harner’s Bakery and Restaurant in North Aurora. I am stripping a dresser I salvaged from an apartment complex trash. It turns out this is a chifferobe. It was a children’s piece that has a large decal shadowing on the front wardrobe door. I have been researching how to minimize the shadowing of this large front panel. It turns out, I will need a five gallon bucket for fresh cleaning water. I think of Harner’s. They sell plastic pickle buckets and other large plastic food buckets for $2.50. The thought of grabbing a 1/2 price day old bakery product is further incentive. Too late. All the day old 1/2 price bakery items have been sold. Harners started out as a coffee and donut shop in Aurora in the middle of the 20th Century. It grew into this incredible bakery and restaurant. It has changed locations over the years. They are still serving up donuts and coffee at their West Galena location in Aurora. The North Aurora location on the Fox River is scenic and picturesque. It is located alongside the bike path. At night it is easy to locate by the white silow lit up by vibrant colorful lighting against the darkness of the night. One can enjoy a seat in a booth over looking the Fox River. There is table seating. There is a back room with more large viewing windows and a large stone fireplace. Though I’ve never seen a fire in it. Country decore and accents throughout. A Hall way full of media occolades over the years highlighting everything from the food, the staff, the customers, the family legacy. Interesting reading. I take a seat at the coffee counter. This is a great menu. It highlights good and hearty home on the farm meals. But the Bakery! When the customers walk into the restaurant, it is the bakery one is walking into. AHHHHHH! Cookies and donuts. Pies, cakes, and bread. Krugels, and eclairs. Rolls, danishes, popovers, coffee cake, bread pudding, apple dumpling, on and on. A deli at the far end includes fruit yogurt parfaits, home made tortilla chips, home made salads of vegetables and pastas. Salsa, bread and butter pickles, jelly, cheeses. Harners offer a cookie sample in the bakery. The tongs are a nice touch. I enjoy this menu. It is spiral bound with pages and pages of choices. It begins with a page of eight restaurant highlights. A monthly pig roast is featured along with the daily specials. If you like beer battered fried fish, perch and cat fish, Harner’s has it. This menu is ALL suggesting that this restaurant knows how to serve up pig. Sausages, roasts, Bar-B-Que, Ham N eggs, chopped, hickory smoked, baby back ribs, breaded cutlets. Extensive breakfast choices. Spatzel is mentioned throughout the menu. Beer and wine selection. Bakery aside, desserts get 1/3 of a page at the back of the menu. Sundaes and milk shakes included. There is the family legacy on the back page. I opted for the all you can eat soup and salad bar. Today soup choices include minestrone and tomato basil. Of special interest is the sauerkraut and Polish sausage with caraway seeds, served warm. Mmm, mmm, mmm. Really yummy and comforting. Reminds me of dad. The tomato basil soup was so delicious, I had seconds. The soup and salad bar is served with baked pumpkin walnut bread and a gem of a popover. Huge even. Other menu options include chicken and meat loaf. Hot open faced sandwiches. Spaghetti and prime rib. Sausage gravy in a full order, a half order, with or without eggs, or a cup in the side. Harners famous homemade butter pecan coffee cake. Country platters include roast beef, grilled chicken, fried chicken. Italian selections are served with garlic bread. T-bone steak, New York strip steak, ground round steak. Hot fudge brownie Sundae, root beer float. Apple cinnamon pancakes, pumpkin pancakes, smoked pork chop with egg, pan seared trout with eggs. Read this menu to the end or you might miss the cook out!

This restaurant reminds me of Gray Brothers Cafeteria in Indianapolis, which sadly closed down in June 2025. The atmosphere and the pies are amazing.

Can’t go wrong at this place. Great meals and even better bakery items for dessert… The cherry squares and strawberry turnovers were the best.

I love this place. It isn’t fancy, and the food is comfort food all the way. But everything I’ve ever eaten here has been delicious and exactly what I wanted. The servers are very good about keeping your drink full and checking on you often. Very nice too. I love the old fashioned salad bar and never miss it. The baked goods in the bakery taste homemade and there is a lot of variety. Highly recommend for when you want something good to eat without fuss.

First visit was amazing and I’m looking forward to returning! Checked out the bakery first and couldn’t resist getting the Boston cream pie. Can’t wait to try it! Stopped in on a Friday for lunch and figured I’d kick the tires and try the fish fry. The perch were fried perfectly. Also had the pork cutlet. Delicious Really like the sweet and sour cabbage with squash! Had a great table over looking the fox river. Looking forward to going back. The menu has something for everyone!
