Hareku was a wonderful surprise tucked in the plaza near Star Market and Job Lot. There are several full tepanyaki / hibachi tables up front and plenty of regular seating in back. We were greeted by a friendly hostess before the door closed behind us, and taken immediately to a clean, modern dining area.
The menus are so new that we had to crease the pages to keep them from snapping shut. There is plenty to choose from, including hibachi dinners, 2+ pages of sushi, entrees, and a large selection of appetizers and desserts.
We were in for lunch and ordered sushi. Between us we had the Sweet Lotus roll, an eel and avocado roll, an Alaskan roll, and a house salad.
The rolls were excellent! The rice was the right texture, holding each piece of maki together without being too glutinous. The fish was fresh, and the spicy salmon inside the Sweet Lotus roll seemed like it had been prepared right before our rolls were made. The wasabi honey sauce was awesome, with just enough wasabi to tickle the sinuses without overwhelming the taste of the other ingredients.
Both of the more basic rolls were fresh and enjoyable, and were appropriately sized – no ridiculously fat but short rolls here, these are made tight but packed with plenty of fish.
The house salad was also fresh and the dressing was tasty. My one recommendation to the staff would be to dry the lettuce before plating and adding the dressing. After the first few bites, the bottom third of the bowl was full of orange water, preventing us from enjoying dressing on the remaining salad.
Seating was plentiful, and the interior was clean and well decorated. When we walked in, there were two parties of four in the dining area, and we couldn’t understand why they were shouting across the small tables. When we were seated, we realized that almost every table has a speaker positioned over it, and the music was turned up higher than most bar/pubs. When our waitress had trouble hearing us, we asked her to turn the volume down, and all of us were able to stop shouting. She returned and heard our order correctly. Small things like this are to be expected as a brand new business learns the intricacies of a new space, and I’m certain things will be normalized next time we’re in.
I’ll end on that note: we will be back in. The quality, portions, pricing, and friendly staff all make this a winner, and I hope they are around for a long time.

I just tried this new restaurant. I have been working 13hrs straight fixing frozen houses.
All I wanted was a good meal and bed.
Arrived 30 minutes before closing and the owners could not have been more accommodating! I had the tempura and Spicy miso Ramen and was thrilled.
The owners are amazing, the food is amazing, and the decor is amazing. Think I found my new favorite restaurant!!!
