I see some folks trashing the place but I’ve always had a good experience there. Jackie and AJ are amazing and the place looks great. Yes they sometimes get a drink to people they know well before others, they know like myself for instance only get a bottle of beer so Im quick, get me out of the way fast to concentrate on drinks that take longer.

Yesterday, after meeting with my orthopedic surgeon to discuss progress and recovery, following a less than stellar PT session last week which caused a huge setback in my recovery, (NO fault of the PT), it was off to have a meal prior to running errands.
While I know we have not exhausted all of the eateries in Tacoma, we have definitely been to all who have decent parking. The Hard Luck is on our way home so after driving past it many times over the years we decided to stop.
They had only been open for a short time before we arrived, so there were only 2 other customers. Being first time customers, and not knowing protocol, I went to the counter to ask how we were to order. We picked a table and waited for the bartender to bring us menus. We waited several minutes before the menus arrived. Ray and I both ordered coffee and water. We needed to wait for coffee to be brewed. Fair enough, no problem. Better fresh than hours old coffee. Either their coffee machine needed to be replaced, due to it being ancient, or the bartender wasn’t in any sort of rush to deliver it.
We placed our food order, and waited for our coffee to be delivered, which was just minutes before our food arrived. The bar was not slammed busy. One customer had finished his meal and left shortly after we arrived and the other customer was eating her meal when we walked through the door,
Ray ordered the chicken fried steak with hash browns, scrambled eggs, and wheat toast. I ordered the BLT on sourdough with fries. While we are rarely in a hurry to get our food, neither was the bartender in a hurry to bring it to the table. Our meals had definitely been sitting up for a while. While not cold, our food wasn’t exactly hot either.
The bartender did check back with us a few times which was nice. We decided it wasn’t worth asking for hot food. We had to request more coffee, and then wait for it to be delivered.
Ray said his chicken fried steak was better than he expected it to be. The hash browns looked undercooked and soggy and the scrambled eggs looked pale and almost gray. We have chickens and are used to bright orange yolks.
My BLT had a decent amount of crisp bacon. The lettuce was fresh and crispy and the tomato had flavor. The steak fries were good but could have been hotter.
Breakfast is served until 4:00 every day. I sometimes like breakfast in the late morning/early afternoon. If you are like me, that is worth noting.
One thing I will give the bar was that the music wasn’t blasting us out the door even though the place was empty. The other thing I appreciated was pleasant, rather than annoying, music. I don’t necessarily have a problem with loud. I do have a problem with certain genres of what passes for music these days.
Everything was OK although nothing on the menu screamed return visit!! While I would not advise against going there, we won’t be back.
They have karaoke and several pool tables. We were seated on the dance floor. I have no idea whether dancing still happens. My idea of nightlife has changed in the past few years. LOL!!

The Hard Luck bar was great. Entertaining with people watching and presumed regular interactions. Folks seemed nice. It was funny to see a “no coke in the bathroom” sign that was obviously not working on the crowd. Lol. So if you wanna go to a dive trash bar (I say that with respect and love not hate, in the best way) this spot is great!!

I thought this place was a cool bar until I met the bartenders working. Besides the fact that the parking is HORRIBLE…. The bartenders will PURPOSELY serve others before you. My home girl n I waited 30 min for our drinks while others that just got there are walking up n getting served right away n when I said something about it to the bartenders (I believe her name was AJ, blonde chick short hair n was working with this other blonde girl long hair, both of them kind of heavy sized) I said something to them n they said if I keep “talking shit” the longer I’m not going to get served as she keeps serving others before us so my home girl n I just left. I hope she doesn’t do this all the time because even the security there said that she does n they like to serve the regulars first which I get to an extent but your seriously going to serve the whole bar n have us waiting a half hour? Then when I say something to you about it you get mad n disrespectful n still don’t serve us?!?!

Went for the karaoke and was a little let down. It was a good crowd and lots of different music was played but unless you know the karaoke lady good luck getting a second song in. She kept her regulars in rotation. It does get busy on a Saturday night so you’re going to wait for a drink. Food was pretty good. It’s bar food and for some reason I love bar food. Great mix of people and everyone was respectful.

I was shot by a gun in there parking lot by a regular. They knew there was a problem with security wearing bulletproof vests and didn’t do anything about it. They are loose on pat downs for firearms. There has been a daily police report here daily as of now. I don’t trust them or their security with my safety over firearms. Pretty much the same as latitude 84. I’m not going to do any further business with them. I don’t recommend coming here.

My sisters and I will never return to this bar. Security must be present in the parking lot during closing.
Upon leaving, I was chest-bumped and threatened by a man wearing a light blue sweatshirt who was carrying multiple fake roses he received that night. He also grabbed my sister’s thigh after being told not to touch her.
This was the most uncomfortable and unsafe experience I’ve ever had exiting a bar. The behavior was inappropriate, aggressive, and predatory, and staff/security were nowhere to be found. The lack of oversight and the relaxed attitude of the staff put customers at risk.
Completely unacceptable.

This place is shady!!!! My friend and I got 2 drinks each(total of 4) and we’re charged for 6 the prices for the same drinks didn’t even match. I did not leave a tip and they added one. When I called the next day they said a manager would call me back and no one has contacted me its now been 3 days and I was overcharged $48!! All of that after being ignored for 10 min while trying to order a drink. Byer beware!
Edit : 2 days after writing this review someone reached out to me I had to go back to get my money from the 2 drink overcharge but nothing they could do at that time about the added $10 tip. The employee said “sorry for the over charge, it was just really busy”
