Since opening in 2019, they’ve perfected the art of the smash burger, pairing it with delicious, crispy beef tallow fries. Guests can complete their meal with a rich and creamy shake, or choose from a curated selection of beer and wine. Hap’s is the ideal spot to satisfy your craving for a timeless, expertly crafted burger and more.

I always look forward eating at Hap’s when I’m on Mercer Island. They’ve done an amazing job converting an abandoned gas station into a rustic yet modern burger shop. The menu is simple but customizable, and everything I’ve tried has always been well executed. They also have a selection of homemade milkshakes and usually some really interesting indie soda brands. Would be nice if there was an option to order with a person, but I do like the level of customizability the touchscreen consoles offer.

I’m sorry so say this because I used to love the burgers from here. The $5 fries were very disappointing in both quality and quantity, and the burger patties were burnt. The buns also changed to less tasty ones – minor but this made a big difference in the previous version, and was a major reason we favored this to other burgers.

Edit: this place used to be amazing but unfortunately went downhill. I was hoping it was a temporary glitch but looks like the changes are permanent. Somehow overnight this went from way better than big chains like Red Robin, to worse than McDonalds. They switched from Impossible to black bean burger for vegetarian option which just doesn’t work nearly as well. Now it also comes with barely any fried onions, cheese that’s mostly unmelted, whole thing is wet and stuffed like rags into paper wrapper. It’s nothing like the pic below from few months ago 🙁 Sadly this place is crossed off my list on the island.
Previous review: The Rainfire burger is amazing. Sub an Impossible patty and it’s one of the best vegetarian burgers around. The flavors are bold and well balanced with savory mushrooms and onion crisps, a little spicy kick from the jalapeños and watercress to keep it refreshing!

My new go to burger spot in Washington. The burgers were flavorful, fries crispy, and the soda delicious.
I received kind service with a greeting and general chatting with who I think was the owner, the soda they use here is some of the best I’ve had.
The fries were crispy, well salted, and were cooked with beef tallow. The haps burger I ordered was a bit on the wet side but the patties had a good char and seasoning as they use a nice quality beef here, the buns was slightly sweet and buttery and the vegetables were fresh, I added grilled onions which added to the wetness but I love onions on my burger. Highly reccomend!

The new menu is so good! I wasn’t a fan of the old menu and this burger was sooo good! I’ve been back 3 times in the last 3 weeks!
I’m looking forward to trying the fried chicken burger but can’t help but order the Haps burger.
It’s a true smash patty (two of them, and typically I wouldn’t be into that much beef, but because they are REAL smash patties, they are much thinner than a typical burger, so stick with 2 to try) and it has what I expect burger sauce to taste like, the old sauce was okay. It was more like salad dressing than burger sauce in my opinion. And to be honest, the old burger with its butter lettuce was fine, not my favorite. I think I’m a purist when it comes to a burger and the new burger tastes like what a burger should.
If you were a fan of the original Haps burger, might be worth trying something new.
Also, the fries are delicious! Crunchy but not over cooked. I recommend get a side of Haps sauce and enjoy!
10 out of 10!

Went to haps for our first time in almost a year this week and it was delicious! I got the haps burger and my son got a chicken sandwich and we both got fries. Everything tasted so good – we are already planning our next visit! Our shakes were made by Bill, the manager, who was so friendly and helpful – he actually checked on us as we were leaving – we were not expecting such great food and service! Whatever changes they’ve made since we were here last are working!!!!

Had a burger, fries and a shake.
– Rainfire Burger was flavorful. Patty, other toppings and the sauce all worked well and balanced. I liked the taste but for a burger that had its menu description emphasizing japapenos in there, it was not at all spicy. Not really a complaint but more of a description.
– HAP Fries reminded me of typical cajun fries in regards to fries tossed into spicy seasoning, but I don’t believe it was actually cajun seasoning? It was good savory spicy flavor and well fried so nothing to complain. Additionally, the fries dipped into the HAP sauce elevated the overall flavor, so would love to grab the sauce as an extra side next time again.
– Chocolate shake was nice too. Sweet and milky enough but not too thick making me thirsty.

Ordered takeout and the food was not great. Our order was two of the grass fed beef burger salads with fries. First the order was half the size of what was pictured online. Second, I live on island and was home within 3 minutes of picking up my order, which was still being made when I got there. Everything should have been fresh and it was not. The meat on the salad was so over cooked it tasted like dried out rubber and was ice cold. And the French fries were also ice cold and tasted like they’d been sitting out for several hours. I’ve heard great things about Haps and sadly, I was not impressed. Maybe it was off night for the them but I don’t think I’ll be back

I love the home style cooking flavor of my HAP’s burger, I think it has a lot to do with the high morale and pride that HAP’s kitchen cooks in the morning shift display. They are professional employees that take seriously on how to make a good tasting burger. The service is awesome because they offer you more items in the menu with a happy and cheerful smile. I would definitely come back again when I invite my family for a morning HAP’s homestyle cooking flavor burger. 10:28 AM

I hate the new smash burger! This place is the worst place I have ever ate at. Customer service and the management here just SUCKS!!! I can’t believe this place is still operating. I used to love it here but since the new owner it’s not what it used to be. Burgers are burnt buns are burnt and fries have no flavor. I can see why you only get free fries if you show your review! This place is an eye sore with the garage piling up I guess it matches the garbage food!
