Happy’s Fried Dough on Broadway in Salisbury Beach is one of those boardwalk must-stops where the scent alone pulls you in. The stand has been serving up golden, sugar-dusted fried dough for generations — simple, sweet, and best eaten while it’s still too hot to touch.

A swirl of powdered sugar, cinnamon, or honey gives each plate that perfect mix of fairground nostalgia and seaside air. You’ll find families sharing bites, kids covered in sugar, and a steady line of beachgoers coming off the sand for a treat that never changes.

Like Salisbury Beach itself, Happy’s is timeless — a little messy, a little loud, and completely summer. One taste and it’s clear why the sign always says it’s “Happy Time.” #salisburybeach #happysfrieddough #boardwalkeats #newenglandsummer #massachusettscoast

Happy’s!? Anything but… Worst service ever. The guy running the place was probably the most miserable person I’ve ever met. He loudly complained about customers sitting while waiting for their food. He complained when people paid with their credit cards and he was going to have to pay a $0.48 fee. The shirt he was wearing was only buttoned at the middle 2 buttons and with his chest hair hanging out while he prepared food while he openly drank a beer. We paid $13.00 for mediocre mozzarella sticks and fried dough.

Got the fried dough. It was my first time trying it, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was sort of like eating huge, flattened donut without a hole…anyway, the dough was delicious (albeit a bit pricey and gluttonous) and the service was meh. Just what you’d expect from a boardwalk joint.

Visit the location with my family which I do every single year .Never felt so disrespected and disgusted like I did today and my teenager daughter actually notice it before I did
This male individual the only male that was working at the time , the most rude server I ever experience in my entire life, I been in the customer service business my self for over 20 years this individual drop out order on the counter “mozzarella sticks “ witch was $15 dollar for 5 pieces he stated it’s only one I was like I would like a replacement he walk away and act like nothing happened and them being Rude and the disgusting part of it he grab a single piece of the mozzarella stick and rubbing his sweaty hand all over it while holding in the air stating just one yes just one you charge $5 for each and again it’s not about the money but how nasty he was rubbing his hand all over it witch several other customer thought it was disgusting as well .
This place lost my business and several other business
Call the owner he didn’t care either and the worst part he was sitting in the back the whole incident them while I was walking by from a different shop he was driving away on his Jeep
Bad service all around and didn’t get one apology
Maybe it’s because I was black but I’m pretty sure I have better career them every single one of th behind that counter that took as a joke

Please read to the end. We need to help Happy! Last night 7/24/21 I went into Happy’s with good intentions looking for German fries and the popular fresh lemonade. When I walked in the owner “Happy” was giving my girlfriend a hard time over getting German fries, so I said hey man be nice to your customers, my girlfriend is basically putting food on your table, but he continued being argumentative and rude and obnoxious stating “Be nice!? I am 80 something years old and I have a ton of money!” Like that’s a good excuse for a poor attitude, especially being in customer service, but guys something happened to this man that made him so angry. Something had to have happened and I want to help Happy. I have been going to his store since I was a kid and I have always loved the food. Happy’s is legendary and it’s been a staple in the Salisbury beach food scene. Guys let’s remember that everyone has a story and we all have issues. Let’s look past this behavior and listen to Happy and treat him with the love and respect that we as humans need and desire. Let’s help him bring his business back to life!! Best of luck Happy!!

I’m very happy to share my personal experience at “Happy’s Fried Dough”
located at 14 Broadway Salisbury, Ma.
1st of all they’re known to countless people as having the BEST fried dough on the beach. I can say so via my own experience as well. But you must taste something from the whole menu. Because everything’s delicious & will no doubt have you coming back for more.
The staff’s has always been professional, kind, & friendly & this coming from myself, at one time daily customer until I’d moved away from the area. But every chance I’m able to take the nice, scenic drive up the beach I always make sure to stop into
“Happy’s Fried Dough” & indeed say hello to “Happy” (The Owner). The hardest working individual I’ve ever known as he preps his dough fresh each & every morning. In fact please do send a
“Hello” to my good friend Happy for me at your next visit. My name’s Robin W.
He’ll know who you’re talking about.
Enjoy your next visit as I look forward to mine as well.
Grateful Long Time Customer,
Robin W.

I got fries from a different place and I realized I didn’t have ketchup so I walk into happys to fill my cup with ketchup and a lady goes, “did you buy those from here.” I said no truthfully and she scolded me by saying in a very mean tone, “don’t use my ketchup, leave it here, put it back on the counter.” I couldn’t help but laugh. The disrespect that happys continuously shows their customers is shocking. It’s unfortunate this isn’t my first negative experience with this restaurant. Also, the food isn’t that great and the cleanliness could use some work.

DO NOT COME HERE. THERE IS MOLD IN THE WALLS AND ON THE ROOF.

I went yesterday and ordered some fried dough for my mother. She developed food poisoning within a few hours of eating. You can see brown mold spores in the corners of the ceiling and above the doors from the inside. You can feel holes under the vinyl covering on the walls.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has been contacted.

My family and I visited Happy’s Fried Dough this stormy evening for some of their well known dough. It was a last stop we made before returning home. An older gentleman greeted us from a Seated position in front of the television and said “stand there” as he pointed to a box on the other side of the counter. I complied to his instructions and placed my order and asked him to kindly change his gloves that he was wearing prior to my arrival (again just sitting watching television- not handling food or anything) before he started to prepare the food. The elder gentleman then reacted in a hostile way and said “I’m wearing gloves” I asked him to change them to new ones or remove them and wash his hands before handling my order. I did notice him in the store front smoking upon our arrival to the strip also wearing gloves. He refused to do either of those things. He suggested he had only dirty gloves and we could just leave. Not impressed by the quality of service this establishment provided my family. Needless to say we will not be returning!
